The Experimental Food Society's Spectacular Exhibition in Canary Wharf - CANCELLED

If you like a bit of experimentation and boundary pushing with your food look no further.  The Experimental Food Society have just announced their latest exhibition, to take place in Canary Wharf in November.  Expect food magicians, jellymongers, cake sculptors, and dining conceptualists, and expect it to be Spectacular...  Tickets at £5 each, but you'll have to take money to pay for stuff once you're there.  The society also have a banquet and a talk listed here

"Britain's culinary think-tank are back for thirds with an all-new display by the country's most talented and pioneering gourmet artists. Featuring seven and a half thousand square feet of culinary art, the Experimental Food Society Spectacular exhibition offers guests a sensory feast in which they can meet the artists first hand, marvel at their creations, take part in one of the interactive exhibits, sample edible art, listen to a talk, purchase books and foodie items, watch short foodie films and pick up tips on how to get experimental in the kitchen.
HIGHLIGHTS
* LEVITATING CANAPÉS and THIRST QUENCHING SCULPTURES by POIETIC STUDIO
Poietic will be serving up levitating canapés courtesy of their creation, the Levitating Susan, a sculpture that lifts food into orbit and floats it so that guest can literally pluck the item out of the air. It’s a unique feasting experience that offers a new, bold and exciting way to consume a canapé. * ‘HAVE YOUR CAKE AND EAT IT’ by ANDREW STELLITANO
Andrew Stellitano (Food Artist) is teaming up with augmented reality experts Holition to create a never ending cake. Having rendered a computer mediated, virtual documentation of the exhibited cake, the tablet based augmented reality will replace the ephemeral piece as visitors take a bite - http://vimeo.com/39634991
* ‘SUGAR DESIGN’ by FERNANDO LAPOSSE

Fernando Laposse will also be giving a talk at the exhibition (Saturday 17 November 2-3pm) titled ‘Designs With Sugar’.
* 'CAKE EXPLOSIONS' by BOMPAS & PARR in collaboration with THE CURIOUS CONFECTIONER 
In a typically eye catching performance, Bompas & Parr (Architectural Foodsmiths & Jellymongers) will be sending up teatime in an explosive manner, filling The Curious Confectioner’s (Creator of Edible Art) stunning, cake based creations with powerful explosives and detonating them at 4pm each day at the Experimental Food Society Spectacular exhibition. We will cake you in art! 
‘Feasting’ with Bompas & Parr is out on 29th November published by Anova. Pre order it via Amazon. The book  gives full details on how create your own food explosions (as well as discussions of the mysteries of spontaneous combustion, recipes that work for 33,000 people, cocktails from Aelister Crowley and epic feasts since the dawn of time).
*KERB Corner’ BY PETRA BARRAN
Petra Barran (pioneer of the UK street food scene) is founder of KERB, a street food collective with a mission to make cities taste better. Petra will be curating a special corner at the Experimental Food Society Spectacular exhibition comprising of Spit & Roast, Vinn Goute, Rainbo, Tongue ‘n Cheek, Wild Game Company and Anna Mae’s.
Petra Barran will also be giving a talk at the exhibition (Friday 16 November 4-5pm) titled ‘KERB -Making Cities Taste Better’.
* ‘EDIBLE WEAPONRY’ by KYLE BEAN
Kyle Bean (artist who works with food) will be unveiling a series of weapons made from everyday food stuffs including jelly grenades and toast knuckle dusters.
* ‘THE RIALTO BRIDGE IN VENICE’ - A FIVE FOOT REPLICA IN PASTA by CARL WARNER & PAUL BAKER
Carl Warner (Food Landscape Artist) and Paul Baker (Food Sculptor) will be offering visitors a vision of Italy recreated in pasta. A five foot replica, the bridge will be accompanied by an exhibition of Carl Warner’s incredible food landscapes.
Carl Warner will also be giving a talk at the exhibition (Friday 16 November 2-3pm) titled ‘The Landscape of Food – Building the Rialto Bridge’
* ‘SUGAR CRAFT QUEEN’ by MICHELLE WIBOWO
Michelle Wibowo (Cake Artist), will be presenting a life size sugar sculpture of Her Majesty the Queen accompanied by a life-size Welsh Corgi dog made from English fruit cake. It took Michelle Wibowo over two weeks to create and was created with 25kg of sugar paste. Curtsey's are optional.
* ‘HISTORICAL LIQUOR’ by THE ROBIN COLLECTIVE
The Robin Collective (Experiential Food Artists) will be producing and selling a range of bitters made from history itself. Extracting moisture from the walls of some of Britain’s most iconic figures homes, offices and hangouts and infusing it into the bitters, each 50ml dropper bottle will be accompanied by a cocktail suggestion that  corresponds to the British Icon. Have your taste buds and maybe even your morals titillated, as you take a sip from the past.
* ‘DR GAYE’S SUPER SHAKE’ by DR MORGAINE GAYE
Dr Morgaine Gaye (Food Futurologist) will be selling Dr Gaye’s Super Shake, a futuristic, all-natural energy drink derived from a special blend of unadulterated super foods including some of the highest potency, bio-available (that means really easy for the body to absorb and use) minerals, vitamins and micro-nutrients. * ‘SONIC CAKE POPS’ by CAROLINE HOBKINSON, CONDIMENT JUNKIE & PROFESSOR CHARLES SPENCE
Try a collaborative chocolate cake pop designed by Caroline Hobkinson (Food Artist & Conceptual Chef), Condiment Junkie (Sonic Food Artists) & Professor Charles Spence (Experimental Psychologist and Head of the Crossmodal Research Laboratory at Oxford University who works to make food a more multisensory experience). Not your average cake pop, these can change from bitter to sweet with one dial of a number.
Professor Charles Spence will also be giving a talk at the exhibition (Saturday 17 November 1-2pm) titled ‘Making Food More Multisensory’.
* ‘INDIAN SUPERFOOD’ by GURPAREET BAINS
Gurpareet Bains (Experimental Curry Maker and Indian Alchemist) will be serving up a range of ailment relieving curries using spices in medicinal quantities and a range of superfoods to create delicious curries that alleviate problems such as stress, anxiety and allergies to name a few.
Gurpareet Bains will also be giving a talk at the exhibition (Saturday 17 November 3-4pm) titled ‘Pioneering Curry Making’.

Guests can also book tickets for the ‘British Icon’ themed banquet at which 120 diners will partake in a unique and surreal multi-sensory dining experience inspired by all that is very great about Britain.
