Wonder Hill Market are back in their new home at the Tooting Tram and Social for a very special Halloween event during the daytime on Sunday 28th October, with handmade and vintage traders.  There's also going to be a market on Saturday 17th November

"October brings halloween and a whole host of reasons (well, just one big one) to be as silly as we can be, dress up, eat sweets and have an excuse to eat and drink things that resemble body parts, vampires and blood. Uh hum, well thats how we imagine it to be anyhow! 
So, we're putting on a halloween special for you. We will have a whole host of handmade and vintage traders ready and waiting to see you and sell you their devilishly wonderful wares, hopefully looking a bit more zombified than after the usual night out on a Saturday! 
We will also have live music AND GET THIS!!! - someone lovely to teach you how to do Michael Jackson's THRILLER dance! how cool?! 
There will be a fancy dress competition and prizes for the best dressed.
There will also be a workshop - stitching body parts with The Stitch Clinic - upstairs on the mazzanine, along with our wonderful tea parlour serving spooky treats, tea and goolishly delicious cake. 
What more could you ask for from a Sunday Social? Come join us, mmmwaaghahahahaaaaaaa!"

Pop-up London Transport Canteen in New Oxford Street

To celebrate London Design Festival, Canteen and Transport For London are opening a special five day pop-up transport canteen with dishes inspired by the original London Transport recipes from the 1950s.

"Transport for London has collaborated with restaurant chain Canteen to create a pop up restaurant celebrating the London Transport Canteen tradition.  Canteen specialise in traditional Great British food and will be preparing a menu inspired by some of the original 1950s London Transport Canteen recipes served up in a contemporary setting.  The Canteen has been designed by Michael Sodeau who has taken his inspiration from TfL’s historic design collection and the functional spaces of the original canteens. The space features original ceramic tiles by Craven Dunnill Jackfield, archive canteen photographs produced as large scale wallpaper by Printed Space and moquette seating fabric used on the Underground.  Furniture is by Modus and Very Good & Proper."

After a short summer break (What break?  They announced a new regular event in Spitalfields...) Pop-up Vintage Fairs return to Islington on Sunday 9th September, this month with some live music from Sarah Head (above).

"Enjoy a day of vintage shopping with over 40 of the best vintage traders from around the country selling affordable and designer ladies’ & gents’ vintage fashion, accessories, jewellery,

1953 Themed Jubilee Dinner

Here's a great one-off Jubilee event - a dinner themed to the year of the coronation.

"On the 2nd June 1953, up and down the country people gathered to celebrate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. Families that owned a television kept an open house so everyone could watch the splendid ceremony, and out in the streets or in village halls trestle tables were erected and piled high with food for all to enjoy. The celebratory mood was enhanced by the recent de-rationing of a host of much loved foodstuffs, such as eggs, tea and sugar, meaning that for the first time since before the war, cooking was a joy rather than a struggle. Spirits were high; the new Queen brought with her a sense of hope for the country, the war was behind them and a new era of peace and plenty was just beginning. 
On the 2nd June 2012, to kick off the weekend of Jubilee celebrations, don your finest 50's threads and step back in time to 1953 and re-live the joyous occasion of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. 
Guests will be greeted upon arrival with canapes and a drink, followed by a sit down meal consisting of an array of hot and cold, authentic 1950s, dishes. Desert and tea and coffee will round off the meal, and riotous party games will ensue, guaranteed to get you giggling. Port, a rousing rendition of ‘God Save The Queen’ (and no doubt other songs) and a spot of dancing will finish off the evening in true 1950s style. 
The whole evening costs just £25, including food, all drinks & entertainments. Numbers are strictly limited, so get your tickets fast!"

The Convenience Store Pop-up Exhibition & Shop in Seven Dials

To coincide with London Fashion Week, The Convenience Store are moving from their W10 home for one week, to pop-up in Seven Dials.

"This exhibition/store, where everything is for sale is called, 'Back Issue', a journey into archive.

Future Cinema's Valentine's Week Screenings of Brief Encounter in Shoreditch

'Hide & Speak' Pop-up Bar at Shaker & Company near Euston

This sounds like a great concept:  Shaker & Company in Hampstead Road are holding a pop-up speakeasy in their basement in Hampstead Road.  As with an earlier pop-up speakeasy, a password will be required to gain access.

"During February the short trip to North London will land you back in the underground drinking scene of 1920’s America. ‘Hide&Speak’ is a cool and exclusive pop-up Speakeasy by Four Roses Bourbon inspired by Prohibition-era America. Taking place away from suspicious eyes in the basement bar at Shaker & Company, Hide&Speak has been created in true Speakeasy fashion, with wooden crates and sacks for seating, bourbon barrels for tables and moody red lighting. With Prohibition inspired classics, Shaker will also be showcasing their own siganture serves, including the Flappers V's Gangsters cocktail with brown buttered bourbon. Hackney-on-Sea Pop-Up Restaurant & Tim Mara Exhibition in Broadway Market

The imaginative people at The Art of Dining are taking over F. Cooke's Fish Bar in Broadway Market at the end of January to stage an exhibition of Tim Mara's art, and hold a 3-night pop-up restaurant.

"The theme of the evening is 1970’s home and holiday.  The restaurant's theme is Hackney-On-Sea.  It portrays a 1970’s British beach holiday complete with seagulls, fish and chips and even a donkey.  
‘At home’, above the restaurant is an original 1970’s family home presenting an exhibition of some of the most innovative and skilled screen prints produced in the 1970-90’s by British Royal Academy professor and artist Tim Mara (1948-1997)."

A 1950s Themed Pop-up Christmas Cinema Night in Hampstead

This sounds like the perfect night for film and nostalgia fans - and a chance to meet 50s actress June Cunningham; it's a great initiative by the Hampstead Film Society.

"The Hampstead Film Society in Belsize Park presents a 1950’s themed Christmas special.  We will be showing a complete 1950’s style cinema programme including original commercials, a Christmas cartoon and the classic Ealing comedy The Smallest Show on Earth .
We also have the immense pleasure of welcoming 50s movie actress June Cunningham who played the glamorous usherette Marlene Hogg.  Following the film there will be a Q&A with June Cunningham who will be answering questions on her work with the legendary Peter Sellers and celebrated director Basil Dearden.  We will also be serving mulled wine and mince pies. 
The Smallest Show on Earth is a 1957 British comedy film, directed by Basil Dearden, and starring Bill Travers, Virginia McKenna, Peter Sellers and Margaret Rutherford. The supporting cast included Bernard Miles, Leslie Phillips, Francis de Wolff, George Cross, June Cunningham and Sid James.  The screenplay was written by William Rose and John Eldridge from an original story by William Rose."
