London Supper Clubs

Here is a list of the supper clubs in London that hold regular events:

Alex in India - A new supper club in East London on an Indian theme.  It's held at Alex and Salim's home, and looks very friendly.  They provide food and drink, but you're also welcome to bring a bottle.
Frequency - Once a month - none held so far in 2012
Cost - A donation of at least £20

Annie's Supper Club - A gluten-free supper club, established in October 2010, held in Bromley.  Annie offers a 5 course dinner, and the nights are generally book up far in advance.  They also have several seasonal feasts planned for Christmas
Frequency - Usually about once a month
Cost - Not clear from the site.

The Art of Dining - This supper club mixes food and art to create very special dining experiences around a theme.  Previous events include The Chicken and the Egg, and Rations (a wartime theme).  Expect high concept, and a real experience.  Unlike most supper clubs, the events usually take place over a few nights, so there's a good chance you'll be able to get tickets.
Frequency - Every couple of months
Cost - A donation of around £45

Backdoor47 - Billing themselves as 'a secret foodie extravaganza', Backdoor47 organise regular events around a theme.  Coming up they have seafood & bubbles, and a Roman supper club in honour of the Olympics.
Frequency - 3 planned for July
Cost - Suggested donation of £35  (varies by event)

Bootleg Banquet - A supper club in Shoreditch, run by Pestle & Mortar Catering, who are also available for private catering, and can host private parties for up to 28 people.
Frequency - Up to three times a month
Cost - £40 for 4 courses, with BYOB

Burger Monday - Daniel Young's legendary burger night, with burgers specially made by top butchers, and cooked by top chefs.  These have sold out in *minutes* - if you're lucky you can get tickets.
Frequency - Usually about once a month
Cost - Approx £30 per head

The Bumpkin - A small chain of restaurants specialising in British food.  The Notting Hill restaurant runs a regular supper club, around a theme or food provider.
Freqency - Usually about once a month
Cost - £45 for the September feast, including wine and cider

Cadrega Italian Supper Club - A small supper club in Marylebone that has places for 8 guests.  Food is cooked from the best & freshest ingredients, sources at places like Borough Market and Ginger Pig, with other ingredients like oils & flour delivered from Italy.   Cadrega is also able to hold private events - get in touch via the link for more information.
Frequency - About once a month
Cost - A donation of £40

The Candlestick Maker - A regular supper club run by Ian Ballantyne, which takes place in a variety of venues.  The menus follow a variety of styles, for example Asian, or Basque.
Frequency - Very regular! (Every couple of weeks or more)
Cost - A suggested donation of £35

Chefs London - Two classically trained chefs hold impromptu dinners at a variety of locations across London.  Typically the dinners are 5 courses, and they have been listed by the Evening Standard in their 'Top 10 Supperclubs'
Frequency - Irregular, it seems.  Check the site!
Cost - £35

Clandestinos - A very prolific supper club based in a house in Finsbury Park, catering for between 12 and 14 guests each time.  The suppers have now been running for over two years, and as ever reservations are essential.  They can also host private dinners.
Frequency - Frequent!  Typically 4-6 times a month
Cost - Typically £20 - £30

Dalesford Organic - Dalesford run regular monthly supper clubs at their shops in Notting Hill and Pimlico.  Their website is pretty short on details of how you actually attend, but the best thing to do is to pop in and ask, or follow them on Twitter.

The Disappearing Dining Club - This supper club takes place on the first Saturday of every month.  The format is a dinner, then dancing, usually at a secret venue.  DJs play before and after dinner, and the fun goes on until the early hours.
Frequency - First Saturday of the month.  The next one is on 7th July
Cost - Approx £50

ferdiesfoodlab - Is 1 year old!!  Aug - 31st is their 1st BIRTHDAY PARTY!!! Setup by Simon Fernandez of Fernandez and Leluu.  It all looks absolutely perfect (check out the pictures of the food and venue).  Frequency - Fortnightly,

Cost - A minimum donation of £45

Fin & Flounder - A supper club held at F. Cooke's Pie & Mash shop on Broadway Market, by Fin & Flounder, the fishmonger also on Broadway Market.  The fish is chosen from what's best and in season, and different chefs do the cooking each time.  I've never been to one, but it always looks brilliant.
Frequency - Usually about once a month, although it seems to be taking a break at the moment.  Check the website.
Cost - Approx £30 per head

The First Bite Is - Emily Amuke's Fulham supper club has been going since 2010, focussing on fine food with an Asian feel.  People say 'she knows how to pack flavours' and the supper clubs offer a four course meal with a goodie bag to take home.
Frequency - About two per month
Cost - Approximately £35 - £45 per head, depending on the menus

Flaming Flamingo - A supper club run by private chef Kali Hamm, who trained in New York, and has experience of working around the world, including Asia, Latin America, and Europe.  The supper club is held either at Kali's home (pictures on the site), or other venues around London.
Frequency - Once a month
Cost - A donation of £30 per head for a 5 course menu, with BYOB

Food Art Talk - a new supperclub held in a pop-up restaurant in the heart of Soho.  They will be hosting several dinners for 30 people throughout August.
Frequency: 2 or 3 times a week until the end of August 2012
Cost: £40 for three courses (including half a bottle of wine - and bar available).

Gourmet Lovers Club - A relatively new brunch club in Hackney / Stoke Newington, complete with amusements, vintage vinyl, newspapers, and of course, an amazing brunch.  The brunches happen on Sundays

Cost - A donation of £15 - but they stress that they aren't in it for the money

Grazing Asia - An Asian themed Supper Club run by a collective of chefs (May (Malaysian by May), Mimi  (Meemalee's Kitchen), Uyen (Love Leluu) and The London Foodie) running supper clubs in a variety of venues across the capital.  Includes cookery class nights
Frequency - Several times a month
Cost - Approx £35, with BYOB

Harvest Cocoa Club - A supper club with a chocolate theme, organised by Niko B Organic Chocolates, and starting in September 2011 in Dalston.  The opening event takes place on a Sunday afternoon, and promises 4 courses.
Frequency - Planned for once a month
Cost - Opening event is £18

Italian Supper Club - You guessed it - Italian food.  Cooked & served in the East London home of one of the organisers with spaces for 20 people, they promise homemade food, organic wines, laughs, fun and joy!
Frequency - Not clear - visit the site and send them an email
Cost - £30, payable in advance

Joginder's Supper Club - A family run Supper club in Tufnell Park, North London. Into their fourth year Rani and Saira invite you to relax, socialize, eat, drink and be merry at their suppers held in their candlelit basement. Cooking up North Indian Punjabi food each menu consists of traditional family recipes and new creations.
Frequency - At least once a month
Cost - £25 donation for 7-8 courses + BYOB

Kamayan Filipino Supper Club - Enjoy a cosy meal, learn about Filipino food & Philippine culture and meet other Foodies, in a small group - 14 places available. What is Filipino food? It's diverse, fresh and a versatile cuisine. Through out the country's history, the food was influenced by Spain, Chinese, Malay, Mexico and America.
Frequency - About once a month
Cost - About £30 per person

Leluu - Another offshoot from Fernandez and Leluu, Leluu holds regular nights in her flat in London Fields.  The food sounds amazing, and the evenings sound very friendly and great fun.
Frequency - Regular - There are seven in July
Cost - A suggested donation of £35 per person

Let's Go In For Dinner - A new (as of Sept 2012) supper club based in Seven Sisters.  Rita holds regular dinners in her house for between 8 & 12 guests, often to a theme.
Frequency - Once a month
Cost - A suggested donation of £30 per person

Literary Dinners – Unique literary experiences on an intimate scale. Each dinner is in a special location and with a delicious menu, allowing you to meet an author along with just a few other guests.
Frequency – every one to two months
Cost –£30 in advance

The London Supper Club - A long-running club, held in Balham at the home of the organisers.  There is a set three course menu, and up to 18 guests attend.  Food is provided; guests bring their own drinks.
Frequency - Every fortnight.  The events almost always sell out long in advance
Cost - A suggested contribution of £22

The Melting Pot Supper Club - Run by Àngels, Joy and María, the supper club is based in Chalk farm with a Spanish flavour.  The nights are very friendly and the idea of the melting point is lots of different cultures coming together, with about 15 guests each night.
Frequency - Weekly
Cost - A suggested donation of approximately £25

The New Cross Dining Co - A new venture aiming to bring a bit of the East London vibe to the South East by showcasing chefs and creative menus.  The first two runs, from Thursday to Saturday,  take place in May at the London Particular.

Cost - £25 per head through WeGotTickets

New Friends' Table - A French supper club in London.  A very ambitious supper club that holds monthly dinners in private houses in both London and Paris.  Guests need to provide a bit of background information, so that the organisers can sit like-minded people together.
Frequency - At least once a month
Cost - A donation of £80 per person

Ning London Supper Club - A Malaysian supper club held in East London, with Norman Musa, the Young Asian & Oriental Chef of 2012.  Ning run restaurants in the North, and these monthly nights let people in London experience the cooking.  The kitchen area is clearly visible to the diners, like a 'chef's table' in a restaurant.
Frequency - One Friday and Saturday per month
Cost - Approx £35 per head

The Novel Diner - A supper club that hosts events in hour of classic books.  The first was for To The Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf; so expect a slightly more elevated evening than most book groups!
Frequency - About once a month
Cost - Varies - expect £30 - £40

Pomodoro E Basilico - Vegan Supper Club Pomodoro E Basilico which is situated in Queens Park London, is the brainchild of vegan chief Sara Mittersteiner . Drawing on her Italian heritage, she creates delicious dishes from different regions of Italy, all of which is entirely vegan and free from any animal products.
Frequency - Once a month
Cost - A donation of £25 per person

Pop-up Barbados - P.U.B is a pretty self explanatory supper club run by Barrie Gunning.  Barrie grew up in Barbados before coming to Europe when he was 21, and now cooks for events, private dinners, and this supper club.  Menus change, but expect seafood!
Frequency - About once a month - next is on 30th June
Cost - A donation of £25

The Rebel Dining Society - Dinners or lunches held in their East London HQ, around a theme.  Past events have included an Absinthe cocktails & food pairing evenings, and sunday lunches featuring produce from Broadway Market.  Expect something special!
Frequency - weekly, when they are held.  No upcoming events are listed
Cost - Approx £30 per head

Sabrina's Kitchen - Sabrna Ghayour was the creator of the very popular English Laundry supper club night, and has now started running her own supper club in association with Simon Fernandez of Ferdie's Food Lab (qv), generally held in private houses.  Each night covers a different cuisine - Spanish, Pan-Asian and Sabrina's own take on Persian.
Frequency - Very active!  Typically three a month
Cost - A donation of £40 per person, of which £20 needs to be paid up-front

Scratch Secret Suppers - Ex-pat Australian chef Michelle Francis and Jane Kelson offer a Seven Course Seasonal Tasting Menu 2-3 times a month from their lovely looking apartment just off Marylebone High Street. 14-16 diners make this a very social supperclub and great for mingling.
Frequency: 2-3 times a month
Cost: A donation of £40 payable on the night.  Includes a fizzy cocktail. BYO thereafter.

The Secret Larder - A very exclusive supper club in North London run by the published cookery writer James Ramsden.  all future events seem to be sold out, but there is a waiting list.
Frequency - Every couple of weeks - all booked, but taking names for a reserve list
Cost - Not revealed

Secret Sunday Lunch Club - A supper club devoted to Sunday roasts, based in Notting Hill.  A very friendly-sounding affair, with the roast placed in the middle of the table for people to tuck in, plus desserts and a cheese boards.
Frequency - Once a month
Cost - Generally £35 with BYOB

Seventh Floor Supper Club - A supper club that takes place in a flat on the seventh floor of a building in the heart of the city.  The food the cook is rustic, home style, Mediterranean which changes with the seasons.  It's very small - only 6 places - so book early!
Frequency - Monthly
Cost - £25, with BYOB

The Sharing Supper Club - A supper club in South Woodford, East London, where all the food is served on large sharing plates.  There is usually a different theme for each dinner, and there are planned African Fusion and Tuscan nights.
Frequency - Usually monthly - the next are 28th July, 18th August and 29th September
Cost - £30, with £15 payable in advance as a deposit.  BYOB

The South West Supper Club - Regular nights held in a variety of venues in South West London, including wine shops and private houses.  The theme is currently 'wild and foraged' and I can personally vouch for this one.  You'll eat great food and have a great time.
Frequency - Usually twice a month
Cost - £30 per head

Stowe Rd Supper Club - A small supper club held in the organiser's flat in Shepherd's Bush, with room for 12 guests.  The chef has worked at restaurants like Dock Kitchen, and done private catering, so expect something good!
Frequency - About once a month, typically on a Saturday
Cost - £25 per head, with BYOB

The Supper Club London - Based in Balham, with regular nights in the organisers' home.  There is space for up to 18 guests, sitting in a large dining room.  There's also a Facebook group, and it looks like it's very popular.
Frequency - Approx one a month - there are 2 in February
Cost - A recommended donation of £22 per head

Surrey Secret Supper Club - Not strictly in London, but not far out on a train, and definitely do-able, especially as you eat in a grade 2 listed cottage.  They serve a 5 course tasting menu, and it's BYOB
Frequency - Every two weeks or so on a Friday or Saturday
Cost - A donation of £35 per head

Tavolone - Tavolone means 'big table' in Italian, and this supper club groups ou around a big table, after hours at the ad agency Mother.  I hope to go to this one very soon!
Frequency - Once a month - usually on the last Tuesday of the month
Cost - Approx £40 per head, including wine

The Truffle Club - A club offering high-end dinners, all including truffles.  The menus look fabulous, but beware - they sell out very quickly.  Events are held at Bar Battu, in the city.  Bar Battu also offer bespoke catering.

Cost - The listed 4 course dinner is £70 per head

The Underground Supper Club - Run by Ms Marmite Lover, this is one of the most regular and most famous London supper clubs.  She's also written a book on how to do it, and there's now a Secret Garden Club offering a daytime alternative.
Frequency - Approx 2 supper clubs and one garden club a month
Cost - Varies, but generally £40 - £60 per head

We Sabi Fusion - We Sabi Fusion run regular supper clubs in Hoxton, in addition to offering private catering.  They serve Nigerian fusion food, typically 5 courses.
Frequency - Once a month
Cost - £45 per head, or two people for £80

White Room Supper Club - A supper club in a private apartment near The City & Barbican.  There is a strong focus on mingling, and people booking on their own are actively encouraged.  The dinners have four courses and feature locally sourced ingredients
Frequency - Twice a month
Cost - A donation of £35 per head, with BYOB

World Brunch Club - A regular Sunday supper club held at the Sugarhouse Studios in Stratford.  Each time it's a different cuisine, followed by a specially selected film.  The club started at the organisers' flat in Kentish Town, but since getting the bigger space now caters for 50 people at a time.
Frequency - Once every 2 months
Cost - £15 inc the film
