A 6 Course Dinner at Boxpark to Launch Sarah Holt's Novel 'Love and Eskimo Snow'

This May go to a book launch with a difference - one with a super club themed around it.  Sarah Holt is launching her novel Love and Eskimo Snow with a 6 course dinner at Boxpark, with each course designed around aspects from and incidents in the book.  Plus you get to meet the author!

"On Sunday May 25, the traditional book launch will be turned on its head, as the UK’s first edible launch event takes place, sponsored by web hosting company UK2.net.
The event is the result of a collaboration between debut novelist Sarah Holt and cutting-edge edible experience company, Edible Stories.
For one night only, British book worms will be able to sit down and experience a six-course menu that’s been designed to tell the story of Sarah’s first novel, Love and Eskimo Snow, through taste, texture, scent, sight and sound.
The menu will feature cocktails that shape-shift as you drink them, courses that you have to interact with to discover their meaning, and plates of the unexpected. The concept for each course has been created by Edible Stories’ avant-garde chef Françoise Cozzolino, a Paris-born, Italian-German, professional chef who has worked with Pierre Koffman (3 Michelin stars) for the past three years.
Love and Eskimo snow, meanwhile, is an inverted Cinderella story about the nature of love and the possibility of loving more than one person at a time. The title comes from the myth that suggests that Sami Eskimos have more than 200 different words for snow. The suggestion is that love should be the same."

When - Sunday 25th May, 7.30pm - 11.30pm

Where - Boxpark, Bethnal Green Road, London, E1 6GY

Tickets - £57.50 from Design My Night here

Bookstock's Halloween Literary Night near Great Portland Street

Bookstock is an occasional but regular literary night featuring 4 authors reading and talking about their work.  It's organised by the very well established North London Reading Group.  Previous events have been very popular and this time there's some comedy and spooky stories, and there's a book swap too, so bring along a book or two to swap.  (NOT 'One Day' - everyone always brings 'One Day' to Book Swaps!)

"Our Bookstock literary night is popping up for Hallowe'en in Euston on Saturday 19 October.
Lewis Harrison-Barker and the cast behind spooky Edinburgh fringe improv B-Movie 'They Came With Outer Script' will perform comedy, tell spooky stories, and introduce the following authors whose books will each chill you in different ways:
* Elanor Dymott - author of the acclaimed 'Every Contact Leaves Without a Trace' which has been compared to Donna Tartt's cult classic 'The Secret History'
* Alexia Carsale - writer of 'The Bone Dragon', a blend of psychological thriller and fairytale told from a 14 year old girl's viewpoint
* Helen Smith - author of "modern day Agatha Christie" Invitation to Die, which is set at a Bloomsbury conference and features bodies and red herrings aplenty
* Terry Grimwood - horror writer whose 'Axe' concerns a failed rock star who stumbles upon a 'killer' riff
* Amy Bird - exciting new novelist behind the chilling, twisty life-swap debut 'Yours Is Mine'
The action takes place at The Green Man pub opposite Great Portland St station in Euston, and there will also be book signings and the chance to meet and swap books (and mobile numbers?) with kindred 'spirits'. And pumpkins."

When - Saturday 19th October, from 7pm

Where - The Green Man, 383 Euston Rd, London, NW1 3AU

Tickets - £6 in advance from here, £7 on the door

Feed&Read's May & June Pop-up Books Events in Deptford

"Feed&Read is a pop-up serving delicious seasonal cakes and bottomless cups of fairtrade, organic tea at Bearspace Gallery in Deptford. Feed&Read sells unique, quality crafts and cards made from salvaged and saved second-hand books, and run a book shop-and-swap of pre-read, pre-owned and pre-loved books - so be sure to bring a book along to swap. It’s a perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon, read a new book, meet new people, and enjoy an exhibition at Bearspace Gallery."

Bookstock 8 Literary Night near Great Portland Street

Bookstock is an occasional but regular literary night featuring 4 authors reading and talking about their work.  It's organised by the very well established North London Reading Group.  Their last event (Bookstock 7) was back in January, in the same venue, and this time there's a book swap too, so bring along a book or two to swap.

"We've got a corking line-up. The very entertaining author and Booktrust blogger Matt Haig will both compere and read from his brand new novel 'The Humans', which Chocolat author Joanne Harris has described as "a kind of Curious Incident meets The Man Who Fell to Earth" and looks set to be one of this Summer's reads.
He will be joined by:
* MH Baylis - author of Ally Pally-set crime novel and paean to London 'A Death at the Palace'
* Lane Ashfeldt - short fiction author of 'Saltwater', a collection of stories inspired by the sea
* Liz Harris - author of 'The Road Back' an epic set in London and the Himalayas in the 1950s & 1990s
* Seki Lynch - poet who will perform some of his powerful, louche verse
We are popping-up again in the Green Man pub in NW1, which is very handily opposite Great Portland Street tube station. We'll be running a bookswap, so people can swap books while meeting new like minded souls over a glass of wine or ale, and there will be chances to win prizes and get signed copies of the books."

When - Saturday 18th May, from 7pm

Where - The Green Man, 383 Euston Rd, London, NW1 3AU

Tickets - £6 in advance from here, £7 on the door

Literary Dinners & Foyles Present Sheila Heti in Spitalfields

Another literary evening from the excellent Literary Dinners, this time for Canadian writer Sheila Heti.  I went to an event last year - see pictures here - and it was excellent.  You can see the work that goes into the venue and the preparation, and the food was delicious.  This time the venue is The Rag Factory in E1, a creative space used for art, rehearsals and performances.

"What did you want to be as a child? Fire fighter, astronaut… celebrity dragon known for magical deeds? Well, let Literary Dinners take you back, as we get childish and act out at the Rag Factory with Sheila Heti. For one night only, small talk and mundanity will be put aside in favour of 'got got need', lofty dreams and squabbling over the last flump.
Much lauded and chit-chatted about, Sheila will be center stage as we try and answer her fictional memoir How Should a Person Be? Accompanied by colourful drawings and a gob-smacking menu from the delectable Kosher Roast, Sheila will be on hand as literary therapist for the evening.
Our resident maitre’d fictionistas will bring chewed Crayolas and well-thumbed stage plays on request.
Tickets include food and literary entertainment. "

When - Thursday 2nd May, 6.30pm

Where - The Rag Factory, 16-18 Heneage St  London E1 5LJ

Cost - £30 in advance from here

Literary Dinners present Craig Taylor's 'Londoners' in Islington

Literary Dinners have announced their third dinner, this time themed around Craig Taylor's Londoners.  Craig is a Canadian writer living in London, and his book is a picture of London through the voices of lots of inhabitants, from the woman who is the voice of London Underground to the director of the largest funeral parlour in Bethnal Green.

"Dine in the unparalleled setting of the Islington Metal Works, as Literary Dinners and Foyles - whose own literary luncheons are the stuff of legend - join forces to celebrate the epic achievement that is Craig Taylor's Londoners.
Craig will be retelling stories from some of the capital's most charismatic inhabitants, moving from table to table with only the juiciest cuts, as pop-up restaurateurs The Two Nightingales offer extra-literary sustenance in the form of hearty English fare. And our resident literary conductor will be guiding proceedings - and validating Oyster cards - from the comfort of the Metal Work's tube carriage bar.
For an extra 10% off Londoners, enter "TAY10" at the checkout on the Foyles website.
