The 2014 Asia House Spring Fair in Marylebone

The Asia House Fair is coming to Marylebone for 3 days at the end of March, with lots of stalls from all over Asia showing and selling their wares.  I loved it last year - definitely worth a visit!

Asia House’s magnificent London headquarters just north of Oxford St will be transformed into a bustling bazaar this month offering the best in arts, design and craftsmanship from different parts of Asia. The Fair, now in its sixth year, gives shoppers the chance to buy unique and unusual gifts not normally seen on the high street.
The fair is a unique three-day shopping experience with more than 30 exhibitors selling a dazzling array of jewellery, textiles, arts and crafts. There will be late-night shopping on Friday, 28 March, when traditional Asian music will entertain shoppers as they browse the beautiful hand-crafted items on sale and enjoy a glass of wine, soft drink or beer from the bar from 5.30pm onwards.
Since the final day of the Fair is on Mother’s Day, shoppers can bring their mothers along for a Mother’s Day treat of tea tasting. Chinalife, which specialises in selling a wide range of loose leaf teas and herbal health products, will give a free talk on Sunday 30 March about the health benefits of teas and a free tasting starting at 2.45pm.
Each stall has a unique story to tell. S jo sells original crafts handmade by marginalised women artisans from villages in south-east Pakistan. Joss Graham specialises in traditional textiles and costumes as well as paintings, wood and stone sculpture, ceramics, baskets and jewellery from India, Central Asia and Tibet.
The Fair will also feature vintage kimonos from Japan, clothes, handicrafts and accessories from small producers in Kazakhstan, traditional Uzbek and Turkomen robes, Suzani embroideries, scarves from Kutch in Gujarat, Fairtrade crafts from the Philippines, home accents from Kashmir, jewellery from Thailand and a lot more."

Hush House Creative Super Market at The Bussey Building in Peckham

Hush House is a one day creative market happening at The Bussey Building in Peckham on Saturday 24th August.  Expect to products from local designers and artists, plus lots of food and drink - full list of stalls here.

"On Saturday 24th August, Hush House will be hosting its inaugural Super Market at the Bussey Building in Peckham.
The free entry event will play host to a diverse range of creative talents from food and drink, to artists, clothing designers, DJs, buskers, florists, jewellers, and photographers. Visitors will also be able to see engaging installations, as well as experiencing truly inspiring talks.
The team behind the Hush House Super Market concept commented: “We want to give visitors quality and hand-made in its rawest form, before the dilution and advertising hype. Hush House is a creative collective that, up until now, has focused on building a platform for unsigned electronic musicians - discovering, nurturing and distributing ground-breaking music for free on their blog: http://hush-house.blogspot.com.”
“As consumers, we should vote by supporting those who make their craft a living, so look out for the stories, along with some musical treats to get you grooving all the way to Peckham.”
In addition to the Hush House Super Market, visitors on Saturday 24th will be encouraged to take a map, roam around and explore the ‘off-market’ in Peckham, where there lies great undiscovered shops, pubs and eateries.
The Bussey Building is an 8-minute train from Victoria and London Bridge, but visitors can also jump on the over ground (that’s the orange one), bus, cycle or walk."

The StockMKT Early Bank Holiday Night Market in Kingston

The StockMKT is back for the first Thursday in May (just before the May Bank Holiday Monday) with an appearance in Kingston.  Inspired by the night markets of the Far East, it's a mix of eating and shopping, with DJs, and a very cool vibe.

"In September 2012 The StockMKT night market debuted at Kingston Market Place. The clouds parted, the rain stopped and the sun shone… on the righteous (and us too!) It was a rip roarer - and thanks to you all for coming down, eating, drinking, dancing, blogging and tweeting.
The street food - Oh the street food! From the capital’s best pizzas, to Wild Game, to genuine Breton crepes to the largest selection of Scotch Eggs on Planet Earth, Kingstonians went mad for it.
But, crucially for our family friendly mission, we also had amazing interactive games from the awesome students of Kingston Universe, great sounds from our in-house DJs Culture Cuts and the amazing Albert Ball’s Flying Aces - maybe the coolest 20s ragtime and jazz band in town.
It was so popular, people wanted us back the following week, so for summer 2013 we have a number of night markets planned for Kingston: May 2nd is just the beginning.
So what’s new at the May 2nd Kingston StockMKT?
Some old favourites and some new to London traders:
Healthy stuff: More delicious street eats from Thailand, Korea & Japan. The kind of goodness corporate noodle chains can only dream of serving up.
Bad (meaning good) stuff: And, if the idea of ‘healthy’ frightens you, don’t panic we’ll have some of the ooziest burgers in London, unctuous pulled pork and the most fantastic array of sausage products known to humankind.
Classy stuff: Cocktails made from proper fresh ingredients by people passionate about their spirits.
Sweet stuff: Real Italian gelato, sherbets and sorbets, cakes to die for (and yes cupcakes – people can’t get enough of them, so they’re back).
Take home stuff: We have a jewellery cluster, handmade home accessories, plus loads of upcycled and vintage wear from new stallholders.
Ear stuff: DJs Culture Cuts and The JC Carroll Acoustic Trio, and we also have some quirky new friends on the bill, throwing their musical magic into the mix!"

Christmas Caramel Pop-up in Bethnal Green

Sorry - Cancelled!

Two friends, Rebecca and Tessa, are holding a one day sale of home made caramel just round the corner from the Museum of Childhood in Bethnal Green.  You can also win a prize by guessing the secret flavour!

"This December, we've got our thermometers out and we can see that things are getting pretty hot on the Sugar Loaf Walk.
We're cooking caramels better than Walter White cooks crack.
Our caramels taste so good, they probably are criminal - but we promise they'll look much prettier than your average mug shot.
Our caramels are perfect for Christmas gifts, they keep for ages, so you don't have to eat them all at once - but if you don't someone else definitely will.
Expect experimental flavours along side some firm favourites.
And if you fancy yourself as a bit of a super taster with a palette to rival Heston's you should come and play guess the secret flavour!
Prizes to be won!
Sounds pretty good right.
So come on down to Sugar Loaf Walk, on Sunday the 16th of December and buy some delicious buttery caramels!"

Jamie Oliver has teamed up with streetfood specialists KERB to host a streetfood party outside his restaurant Fifteen this Saturday 15th December.  You might remember that Fifteen were banner sponsors of Fifteen Street, the British Streetfood Awards in the summer.  Note that they'll also be collecting for charity on the day, so please bring a small gift with you on the day to give to the local community.

"We're all counting down the days until Christmas, but now there's another super-exciting date to put in the diary! Start Christmas early by wrapping up in your woolly scarf and bobble hat and heading down to Fifteen for a heartwarming Christmas market on Saturday 15 December from 11am-5pm.
To help us get in the festive spirit we've teamed up with the fabulous KERB, whose mission is to normalise great food by getting it out onto Britain’s streets. In among the tinsel and fairy lights will be some of London’s best street food vendors, all dishing up delicious treats. Stalls already confirmed include the Rib Man and his legendary rib sandwiches, Bell & Brisket who champion all things salt beef, the Pizza Pilgrims and their authentic pizzas with attitude, and Poppy Smadja and her wickedly indulgent tarts. Also joining us will be Green Goat, a 1995 school bus converted into an awesome British food-specialising machine, breakfast specialists Original Fryup Material, Rib Man (widely viewed as having the best ribs in London), Luardos and their festival-famous Mexian grub sold straight from their gorgeous vans, Dosa Deli, Angus, Kimchi Cult and their mouth-watering Korean-style fast food, and Southern-style street food specialists Anna Mae’s.
Once you've filled your bellies there will still be lots to do. We’ve invited down a carefully selected bunch of incredible producers, so you can pick up those last-minute foodie pressies and do a one-stop foodie shop for Christmas goodies. Stalls will include renowned smokehouse Hansen & Lydersen, who will join salumi kings Picco Salumi and Eat My Pies, who make delicious pies, stuffed with love (and other things, of course). Alongside these, we’ll be joined by Hackney’s famous Vadasz Deli, the ever-fancy Meringue Girls, and Violet. Once all the shopping’s done, you’ll be able to sip mulled wine and hot chocolate while enjoying some festive classics from local choirs.
Of course, Christmas is a time for giving, so we’re also asking everyone who comes along to the market to bring with them a small gift, food or otherwise, which will be given to poorer families in the local community to help them have a happy Christmas."
