The Midnight Apothecary is an open air cocktail bar on the roof of the tunnel shaft at the Brunel Museum in Rotherhithe. They had a regular run of events in 2012 and 2013, and are kicking off 2014 with a special ticket-only 'Toast in the Tree' wassail. Bring something (non-electronic) to make a noise with, a torch and some money for cocktails, and be prepared to sing...
"Midnight Apothecary 2014 kicks off on Saturday 18th January with an ancient appley affair. Gather round the fire for Wassailing, the traditional old Twelfth Night celebration. It’s a chance to warm your cockles and make some noise, aided by some cider-based concoctions (and non-alcoholic versions for the serene and sanctimonious).
This ancient ceremony blesses the fruit trees in anticipation of the bountiful new season. For the second year, we will process to the apple tree in the lower garden with Wassail and make lots of noise, led by the Butler of the Ceremony and starring the Wassail Queen. Bring lanterns, torches and/or something to make a noise with. There will be a cash bar from the Midnight Apothecary and delicious hot food on sale from BBC MasterChef winner Julie Friend. There will be other heartwarming cocktails on offer to keep the heart pumping. Live music and singing on the cards."
