Shuttlecock's latest pop-up in Marylebone invites you to experience a cockney wedding from 1969, in a re-created East End boozer, complete with their modern take on 60’s classics such as cockles, winkles & whelks, plus some actors in character as Wide boys and wheeler-dealers; gangsters and gossips; lecherous uncles and lascivious bridesmaids… It's taking place each evening from Tuesday 26th - Friday 29th April, and it sounds like so much fun - plus a great opportunity for fancy dress!
"From Tuesday 26th through to Friday 29th April, Shuttlecock Inc, the award-winning creative team behind immersive pop-up experiences such as Mile High and Rumble at the Deli, and most recently The Blue Lotus Opium Den, invite guests to slip on their winkle pickers and heel-click back to London’s iconic East End in 1969 for a cockney wedding celebration for the ages.
It’s all about to kick off at fictional East End boozer, The Cobbler’s Awls, where friends and family of the newlyweds are gathering for a ‘Right Royal Knees-Up’. Wide boys and wheeler-dealers; gangsters and gossips; lecherous uncles and lascivious bridesmaids… You’ll find them all at The Awls, celebrating as only cockneys know how – with a guzzle, a scuffle, a singsong and a scandal.
Across four evenings starting on 26th April, guests will be invited to join in with the wedding party as the impressive basement space at Carousel, Marylebone, is transformed into a sepia-tinged pocket of London’s cockney heartland of yesteryear. Expect the pop-up team’s signature brand of flavour, design, performance and music as The Awls is recreated, complete with larger than life characters and creative reinterpretations of classic East End delicacies and tipples indicative of the time. As well as a slice of the all-important wedding cake centrepiece, guests at the bash will also enjoy a modern twist on 60’s classics such as cockles, winkles & whelks, all washed down with a Grey Goose vodka & tonic or a cheeky port & lemon, and of course a touch or two of the unexpected, as only the Shuttlecock Inc team could deliver."
