Tendril Kitchen's 2021 Residency at The Sun & 13 Cantons in Soho


Chef Rishim Sachdeva's Tendril Kitchen opens at The Sun & 13 Cantons on Tuesday 18th May 2021, serving Tuesday - Sunday for the next 6 months.  Rishim describes it as 'a (mostly) vegan kitchen' and the food comes bursting with flavour, including a chipotle grilled oyster mushroom bun, and a stunning ratatouille.  I've been a fan of Richim's cooking since first meeting him at a pop-up in Bethnal Green in early 2019, and his home deliveries during the various lockdowns were vital to my health and sanity!  I'm so looking forward to being able to eat at his table again.  

"Award-winning chef Rishim Sachdeva (previously the Dairy, Chiltern Firehouse, the Fat Duck) will this month launch his first solo venture ‘TENDRIL’, a six-month (mostly) vegan chef residency at Soho institution the Sun & 13 Cantons.

Taking over the kitchen at the iconic pub for six-months from Wednesday 19th May, Rishim’s much-anticipated Tendril residency (which was put on hold last year due to lockdown) will offer a (mostly) vegan menu showcasing the talented chef’s creative, flavoursome plant-first dishes for which he has become known.

Tendril follows previous notable chef residencies at the Sun & 13 Cantons from the likes of Asma Khan (Darjeeling Express), Mandy Yin (Sambal Shiok) and Budgie Montoya (Sarap), who have since gone on to enjoy success with their permanent restaurant sites in the capital.

Tendril’s launch menu focuses on the abundance of fresh, seasonal produce found in the UK at this time of year, taking inspiration from Rishim’s enviable restaurant kitchen experience in both London and India, and the food he likes to eat at home, having been a (mostly) vegan himself since early 2019.

Offering a host of veggie bar snacks and small plates, through to larger mains and a short dessert selection, dishes include ‘Grilled squash, red pepper paste, crackers & summer slaw’ and ‘Purple corn tostada, broad bean “guac”, piquillo pepper & artichokes’, alongside non-vegan options such as ‘Baked brie, burnt honey, preserved lemon, truffle mascarpone & cranberry bread’. Main dishes lead with ‘Chipotle grilled oyster mushroom, smoked leek & peanut sauce’ and a Tendril signature ‘Ratatouille, basil puree, ras el hanout & herb crumb’ (small plates from £9, mains from £14). Guests can choose to order a la carte, or opt for the Tendril ‘discovery’ set menu, which includes a snack, the choice of two small plates, one main and a dessert for £29 per person."
