Ruby & Pickles are hosting a summer feast at The Joker of Penton near Angel, Islington, on Thursday 16th June. The food is essentially a fusion of Indian and other cuisines - e.g. ‘birycini’ – a combination of the traditional Indian rice dish, biryani, with the classic Italian snack of risotto balls, arancini - and the feast costs jut £22.50. Irresistible!
"Ruby & Pickles are passionate cooks who love creative but unfussy food inspired by their Indian heritage. Following a sold our launch in May, their next event on 16 June in Islington is a Mediterranean Summer Feast where the ladies will create several dishes from across the Med but given a twist with flavours from the east.
Diners will be able to enjoy Ruby & Pickles’ unique ‘birycini’ – a combination of the traditional Indian rice dish, biryani, with the classic Italian snack of risotto balls, arancini. Served with a tomato and mint chutney this will wow guests as did the pav bhaji bruschetta starter at their launch. Served alongside spiced olives, fresh chilli oil, Turkish pide bread and homemade Indian lemonade, these aperitifs will set the pace for a delicious evening ahead.
The main course will be centered around a spiced chickpea and chunky ratatouille served with several salads including lime and coriander potato salad and chilli, almond and carrot salad plus bread, cous cous or rice, smoked aubergine raita and the all important pickle of the month – an important part of Ruby & Pickles’ culinary identity. This month a zesty but spicy lemon pickle is set to tantalise guests’ tastebuds and will also be available to buy at the end of the night.
Finally, there will be two desserts on offer: mango mess – an eastern take on the English classic – and a vegan option of chunky minted pineapple with non-dairy yoghurt. Dishes are 100% vegetarian and vegan and other dietary requirements may be catered for on request, with at least one week’s notice.
Thanks to the founders’ experience running pop-ups, markets and supper clubs in London and Berlin, Ruby & Pickles’ events will offer plenty of exciting, tasty twists on standard supper club menus, all informed by London’s culinary diversity. We’re talking much more than just curry here – this is Indian-inspired innovation, full of flavour and free from fuss."
