The Bert & May x Darkroom Floating Pop-up Shop in E2

Bert & May, the tile, wood and furniture company, is collaborating with London design label Darkroom, and opening a pop-up shop on a barge to show off the collection.  The barge is moored by Bert & May's base at 57 Vyner Street, E2, and between 17th September and 1st October it will serve as a pop-up shop to show off the collaboration.

"Bert & May is delighted to announce its collaboration with London-based independent design label, Darkroom for the London Design Festival, showcasing an installation of bold, geometric new tile and fabric designs. Bert & May will also launch a new fabric collection, a natural progression in establishing Bert & May as a lifestyle brand.
The new Bert & May and Darkroom collection, entitled Split Shift, celebrates the simplistic beauty of three geometric shapes: the circle, the square and the triangle - each coming from the heart of Darkroom’s signature aesthetic. The three designs will feature on Bert & May’s encaustic tiles and fabrics using a distinctive monochrome palate with a flash of blue.
Creativity can be expressed by arranging the tiles to design a structured pattern or alternatively a myriad of permutations can be explored for a more playful concept.
Each tile is hand-poured and coloured with natural pigments in Southern Spain using traditional manufacturing processes. The Bert & May and Darkroom fabrics have been crafted, printed and finished in the UK.
Lee Thornley, Founder of Bert & May says, ‘The collaboration with Darkroom first came about in 2015 with the building of the Bert & May barge when we invited Darkroom to produce a series of wall mounted plates as an art installation. The beautiful oversized plates, complete with the signature Darkroom geometric shapes were the perfect addition to the design-focused interior of the barge and formed the inspiration for the new Darkroom tiles and fabrics we are launching this September.’
As well as presenting an installation of the new collection at the Vyner Street showroom, the Bert & May barge will take on a new identity to showcase the new collaboration. The interior of the barge will be redesigned throughout to include the new Bert & May and Darkroom collection of fabrics and tiles. The new fabrics will be used to create blinds, curtains and bedlinen, and upholster furniture pieces, and a dramatic new tile installation will feature in the bathroom. Bert & May has also created a new paint colour to add to its collection of paints called Darkroom Black that will be showcased in the barge. The barge will be moored at the Bert & May Vyner Street showroom and act as a Darkroom pop-up shop, launching for London Design Festival and continuing until December."
