Two Tribes' Campfire in King's Cross - with food by From The Ashes BBQ

Two Tribes Brewery in Kings Cross have opened a new space called Two Tribes Campfire, with outdoor seating, fire pits, and excellent street food.  Their friends From The Ashes BBQ are serving every Thursday to Saturday, and other traders are in the kitchen Mondays to Wednesdays (it's open Mondays to Saturdays).

I was lucky enough to be invited to a pre-launch night, and its such a great space, with lots of Two Tribes beers fresh from the brewery, plus FTABBQ's excellent slow cooked food, including their spicy pork shoulder in a sugar-y donut bun, which has to be tried!

"Two Tribes Campfire is a unique live fire-cooking and fermentation freight container venue in the heart of London.  Part community hub, part entertainment space, the bar is centred around an open-fire pit where live-fire chefs serve up food to a backdrop for visiting DJs and musicians, many of whom are resident at the recording studios and record labels located nearby.  It’s a brewery taproom experience unlike any other."

When - Mondays to Saturdays til 10pm

Where - Two Tribes Campfire, 105 Blundell Street, London N7 9BN

(Like many breweries it's in a trading estate - but aim your navigation app for N7 9BN and look out for signs and you will be fine)

The Suburban Whisky Lounge Pop-up in NW11

The Suburban Whisky Lounge is a 4 month pop-up whisky bar in Hampstead Garden Suburb, NW11, offering a chance to discover hard to find whiskies under the guidance of experts and enthusiasts.  It has been set up by Dani Smolowitz who runs The Whisky Palate, a company that supplies whiskies to some of the best members clubs and other high end establishments, and will feature over 100 whiskies, and a bar menu that fuses South African and American BBQ.  It is open til the end of December, and will also host several ticketed events - information at their Instagram page.

"Situated in North London’s leafy Hampstead Garden Suburb, home to celebrities such as Harry Styles, Jonathan Ross and Hugh Laurie, The Suburban Whisky lounge is a four month “pop-up” whisky lounge offering over 100 rare and prestige whiskies as well as wines and champagnes. With its large leather arm chairs and low coffee tables, it is the perfect retreat and haven of relaxation and a “home from home”, where you can meet with friends, hold business meetings or simply sit back and relax and enjoy a drink and even a cigar over a friendly game of chess or backgammon that are available in the lounge.
The Suburban Whisky Lounge is the brainchild of former Rabbi and whisky expert Dani Smolowitz and business partner Adam Ziff who has an extensive background in luxury hospitality, property and finance as well as film and television. As an established authority on whisky, Smolowitz’s company The Whisky Palate was established to support the wholesale whisky trade market. Smolowitz prides himself on transforming sales into experiences, a practice that will be carried through and delivered to the Suburban Whisky lounge patrons. It is a recognised fact that over 90% of “A-List” whiskies end up in collector’s hands instead of into the glass, as intended by whisky makers. In 2019 Vault Rare was formed (with his now partner Adam Ziff, in both this and the Suburban Whisky Lounge) under the Whisky Palate umbrella and services luxury establishments such as Annabel’s and Genting Casinos by supplying them with high end hard to source whiskies upon demand.
Having successfully introduced rare and prestigious whiskies into some of London’s most elite and exclusive members clubs, Covid-19 gave them the inspiration to create the Suburban Whisky Lounge to bring the whisky experience more locally allowing everyone the opportunity to be able to discover not just the tastes of the luxury whiskies but also the opportunity to embark on the journey of discovery without having to spend thousands of pounds on a bottle of these unique spirits. Guests are able to come along and sample a dram of whiskies that they may not normally have access to. The Suburban Whisky Lounge Bar staff are very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the whiskies available and are readily on hand to help educate or advise on the perfect blend to suit each individual palate and budget.
The Suburban Whisky lounge are delighted to have joined forces with local business owner and South African speciality meat suppliers Moshe Tasz and partner Marc Cohen of The Biltong Factory, to create an exciting bar menu that infuses South African and Traditional American Barbeque food.
The Suburban Whisky Lounge will also be hosting regular Wednesday Whisky tasting evenings with Brand Ambassadors from different guest distilleries. This kicks off on Wednesday 2nd September with a tasting hosted by the Glendronach Distillery Brand Ambassador Michael Brown. Tickets are available by calling the venue. Doors open at 6pm with a 6.15 start.
The Lounge will be open from 6pm until 11pm Sundays to Thursdays and from 8.30pm Saturdays from October onwards.
Private whisky Tasting events can also be organised for parties of 20 or more."

Bar Aspen - The Friday Night Underground Wine Bar in Camden

Sunny Hodge, founder of the very popular South London bar Diogenes The Dog, has created Bar Aspen, a Friday night only underground wine bar in Camden High Street.  Their focus is on natural wines, with a speakeasy feel.  It's open from 5pm every Friday - booking recommended!

"Bar Aspen is a Friday night only setup, hidden underneath a Camden Town Cafe, the only natural wine focused speakeasy ... ever! We have live music from 19:30 every Friday and a super attentive but relaxed service style.
Sunny Hodge, the founder, also founded Diogenes the Dog in Nov 2018, which is now listed as one of the Top 10 wine bars in London in many mainstream journals. Bar Aspen is a different wine concept, but equally as counterculture as Diogenes, with a focus on how natural wines don't need to be funky-cloudy-cider bombs and if produced and sourced well can be elegant, crisp, and absolutely delicious!"

The Sin Gusano Pop-up Mezcal Bar at Milkbar in Soho

Sin Gusano is opening a pop-up mezcal bar at Milkbar in Bateman Street, Soho, from Tuesday 3rd to Saturday 21st December 2019.  Serving up a mix of drinks, the bar will offer flights, cocktails, and boiler makers (mezcal chasers to beers), in a collaboration with Anspach & Hobday brewery.  There will also be a a tasting room, in partnership with Pensador Mezcal, and a bottle shop so that you can buy some bottles for yourself or friends.  It will be open from Tuesdays to Saturdays from 6pm.

"Sin Gusano, the UK’s first dedicated mezcal bar continues its mission of agave spirit education with its third pop-up bar from Friday 29th November at Milkbar in Soho. Following on from last year’s residency in Haggerston, Sin Gusano moves central to Soho to collaborate with Pensador Mezcal on a mezcal tasting room, as well as an off-licence bottle shop in the run up to Christmas.
In typical Sin Gusano fashion, the signature mezcal flights remain the focus. The rotating flights bring together rare distillates from Sin Gusano’s huge range to help educate drinkers on the distinguishing factors of regional flavour profiles, plants varieties and production techniques.
As with all of Sin Gusano’s offerings, three mezcal cocktails will be available including (subject to change) the Gingerloma; a heady mix of Pensador mezcal, grapefruit, ginger juice, lime, agave syrup and soda. And the Sin Fashion blends Sin Gusano’s Tobaziche agave distillate with chocolate bitters and agave syrup stirred with ice and topped with burnt orange.
Mezcal boiler makers are a new addition to the tasting menu. Inspired by the Mexican way of drinking mezcal, Sin Gusano will collaborate with Anspach & Hobday brewery to offer three combinations of mezcal and beer chaser boiler makers. Pensador Mezcal pairs perfectly with Anspach & Hobday’s The Cream Ale while two Sin Gusano distillates make unexpected but mind-blowing partners to Anspach & Hobday’s The IPA and The Porter.
Another new addition to Sin Gusano’s third pop-up will be the chance for customers to buy and take home distillates as Christmas presents (or for themselves!). Pensador’s mezcals, as well as Sin Gusano’s Tasting Sets and rare distillate bottles will all be available to try before you buy. There will also be the chance to pre-order Sin Gusano’s Mezcal Appreciation Society subscription available from January 2020. Each month members will be sent a 150ml agave spirit tasting bottle with tasting and production notes. The very rare, exceptional distillates (some with as little as five bottles produced and unavailable anywhere else!) will be reserved exclusively for members to buy in full size.
With a pure focus on the mezcal distillates, the food offering at Sin Gusano will be a simple but delicious bar snack of authentic Mexican tortilla chips and salsas."

When - Tuesday 3rd - Saturday 21st December 2019
Tuesdays-Saturdays 18.00-00.00

Where - Milkbar, 3 Bateman Street, Soho, W1D 4AG

The Miracle Bar Christmas Pop-up 2019 at The Henrietta Hotel in Covent Garden

This Christmas a 'Miracle' bar is coming back to The Henrietta Hotel in London, having become a regular pop-up in New York as 'The Miracle on 9th Street', and expanded into other cities around the US and elsewhere.  The Bar, with nostalgic Christmas trimmings, will be popping up from 12th November to 23rd December 2019. Visitors can sample special cocktails like a Snowball Old Fashioned (Butterscotch Rye, Spiced Demerara, Wormwood Bitters, Orange Zest), served in festive, Instagram-friendly glasswear, eat Alpine style food and more, all within a very photogenic setting.

"Experimental Group, the innovative hospitality entrepreneurs, will bring the festively famous Miracle pop-up bar phenomenon from the U.S. to London for the second time, at Henrietta Hotel – the firstand only UK Miracle partner. The Christmas-themed pop-up bar, renowned across America for its creative cocktails garnished with a side of kitsch, will launch on the hotel’s mezzanine from November 12th.
Located next to the Covent Garden piazza, in amongst the shops and boutiques, Miracle at Henrietta will provide the perfect pitstop for a cocktail, and a chance to escape the inevitable Christmas craziness that consumes the capital. Hidden away on the mezzanine, guests are transported back in time to Christmas past, with a nostalgic take on festive décor, designed by experiential company Cheeky Tiki. Perfectly paired with Miracle’s cocktail styling, the space is inspired by a ‘70’s Christmas home’ with retro decorations and coloured lights, as well as an oversized fireplace.
Miracle will offer their renowned roster of Christmas concoctions, designed by original Experimental Cocktail Club alumni Nico de Soto, who returns to the Experimental family with favourites such as the Snowball Old Fashioned (Butterscotch Rye, Spiced Demerara, Wormwood Bitters, Orange Zest), Christmapolitan (Vodka, Elderflower, Dry Vermouth, Spiced Cranberry Sauce, Rosemary, Lime, Absinthe Mist) and newcomer And A Partridge In A Pear Tree (Reposado Tequila, Pear Brandy, Mezcal, Spiced Demerara Syrup, Lime, Egg White, Club Soda, Angostura Bitters, Cinnamon), all served in famously fun and festive glassware."

The Green Vic 3 Month Pop-up 'Ethical Pub' in Shoreditch

The Green Vic is a 3 month pop-up at 46 Great Eastern Street, Shoreditch, billing itself as the world's most ethical pub.  It has sourced food and drink for ethical suppliers, including charaties and social enterprises, and has vegan bun slingers The Green Grill in the kitchen.  It's a nice relaxing space, and I'm glad to say that it was very busy when I visited.  Go and spend some money there!

"What makes a pub, the world's most ethical pub? Well according to The Green Vic, which is opening in Shoreditch and billing itself as just that, it's "where everything you buy and use has a positive environmental and social impact."
The pub is popping up for three months at Iron Bloom on Great Eastern Street. On their drinks list you'll find libations that, between them, support over 40 individual non-profit charities. So you can sup a pint of Brewgooder craft lager - a non profit which is donating money to clean water projects in Africa or have a G&T using Ginerosity craft gin made by a social enterprise which helps train, educate and mentor the homeless.
For food they've teamed up with vegan chefs The Green Grill serving up all plant-based products like the Red Devil burger pictured which features a sweet potato, red kidney bean and coriander patty with roasted red pepper, rocket, cheez slice and sriracha mayo. And on Saturdays they'll be throwing a Better World Brunch where five pounds of every ticket purchased will go towards charity.
The desire to make a difference also extends to who you'll find working at The Green Vic. One in four of the staff employed will be from a vulnerable or disadvantaged background, such as the homeless and people with disabilities."

Don Papa Rum's Casa Sugarlandia Filipino Pop-up in Shoreditch

Don Papa Rum is opening a 3 week Filipino pop-up at 46 Great Eastern Street on 22nd May 2019, featuring lots of rum, lots of cocktails, food from Filipino chefs Sarap, The Adobros, and Food with Mae, and even Karaoke nights.  There will also be two ticketed supper clubs - Food with Mae on Tues 28th May, and The Adobros on Weds 5th June.  This is going to be excellent!

"Casa Sugarlandia runs from 22nd May to 8th June, taking over a two-storey venue on Shoreditch’s Great Eastern Street, revamped as a fully set-designed space, offering Londoners a spectacular taste of the island of Sugarlandia in the Philippines via some of its customs, flavours and flora.
Inspired by the real Filipino island of Negros, known locally as “Sugarlandia”, guests are encouraged to venture into a multi-sensory world where all is not as it seems.  Programme highlights include “Masked Karaoke”, hosted by international drag collective Sink The Pink, dining experiences from some of the capital’s leading names in Filipino cuisine and a bespoke menu of Don Papa house cocktails.
While the programme changes weekly, there are some mainstays, and those with a penchant for Karaoke will be able to jump on the microphone, Filipino-style each week.  Invented in the Philippines in 1973, Karaoke comes to the Casa on Thursdays, kicking off on Thursday 23rd May with the queens of Sink the Pink hosting proceedings. For those on the shy side or simply hoping to coax out their alter egos, there’s also the option to don a mask to spare their blushes and truly let loose. This isn’t your regular sing along, but Masked Karaoke, Sugarlandia style.
The in-house menu comes courtesy of a rolling roster of three chef teams each presenting their take on the flavour of the Philippines. Nicknamed “Asia’s last secret cuisine”, Filipino food upholds rich flavours and displays a wide range of culinary techniques emanating from the 7,000 islands that make up the Philippines. BBQ chefs SARAP line up alongside London supper club chefs Mae Williams and The Adobros.
There will also be two, ticketed supper club experiences at Casa Sugarlandia. Mae Williams brings her authentic flavours for a five-course menu (28th May) whilst The Adobros present their distinct culinary classics (4th June). Both menus will include a complimentary Don Papa cocktail and the rum as an ingredient in a selection of dishes.
On another night, concoctions will be served with exquisitely edible sugar-spun garnishes designed by the artist Fernando La Posse showcasing the provenance of the unique Filipino sugar used to make Don Papa."

"Experience the latest expression of The House of Peroni with our two-week immersive event to celebrate the success of our emerging talent program across the worlds of fashion and drinks.
Over the last seven months, The House of Peroni Fashion Studio has been home to eight of the best emerging designers across the UK and Ireland. The designers received industry leading mentorship and a cutting edge fashion studio to help craft their collections for a showcase during London Fashion Week 2019. This fully immersive experience will feature eight distinctive spaces, inspired by the work of the designers, given a platform by Peroni Nastro Azzurro.
At the heart of the experience will be a unique platform bar, providing the ultimate stage to hero the craft, art and innovative mixology skills of the bartending talent. Here, Sam Taylor, winner of our London Cocktail Week emerging bartending talent program will be joined by our master of mixology, Simone Caporale to serve Peroni Nastro Azzurro-infused aperitivo cocktails inspired by the eight designers. Try delicious Italian cuisine from our food partners Pasta E Basta to complete the experience.
We’ll also be launching the new designs of the Peroni Nastro Azzurro bottle and pint glass, as well as introducingour new Peroni Libera 0.0% offering. These will be on display around the main Peroni bar, along with displays of the designers’ garments from the London Fashion Week showcase."

The 'Miracle' Christmas Pop-up Bar at The Henrietta Hotel in Covent Garden

This Christmas a 'Miracle' bar is coming to London, having become a regular pop-up in New York as 'The Miracle on 9th Street', and expanded into other cities around the US and elsewhere.  The Bar, with nostalgic Christmas trimmings, will be popping up from 23rd November to 24th December at The Henrietta Hotel in Henrietta St, Covent Garden. Visitors can sample special cocktails like a Snowball Old Fashioned (Butterscotch Rye, Spiced Demerara, Wormwood Bitters, Orange Zest), eat Alpine style food and more, all within a very photogenic setting.

"Experimental Group, the innovative hospitality entrepreneurs, will bring the festively famous Miracle pop-up bar phenomenon from the U.S. to London for the very first time, at Henrietta Hotel. The Christmas-themed pop-up bar, renowned across America for its creative cocktails garnished with a side of kitsch, will launch on the hotel’s mezzanine from Black Friday, 23rd November 2018 until Christmas Eve.
Located next to the Covent Garden piazza, in amongst the shops and boutiques, Miracle at Henrietta will provide the perfect pitstop for a cocktail, and a chance to escape the inevitable Christmas craziness that consumes the capital. Hidden away on the mezzanine, guests are transported back in time to Christmas past, with a nostalgic take on festive décor. Reminiscent of a chalet living room on Christmas Eve, stockings will be hung, fairy lights strung, and the Christmas tree will take centre stage.
Miracle will offer their renowned roster of Christmas concoctions, designed by original Experimental Cocktail Club alumni Nico de Soto, who returns to the Experimental family with favourites such as the Snowball Old Fashioned (Butterscotch Rye, Spiced Demerara, Wormwood Bitters, Orange Zest), Christmapolitan (Vodka, Elderflower, Dry Vermouth, Spiced Cranberry Sauce, Rosemary, Lime, Absinthe Mist) and newcomer And A Partridge In A Pear Tree (Reposado Tequila, Pear Brandy, Mezcal, Spiced Demerara Syrup, Lime, Egg White, Club Soda, Angostura Bitters, Cinnamon), all served in famously fun and festive glassware. Available alongside, guests can choose from a selection of Alpine-inspired snacks, from an Ibérico ham and truffle Croque Madame to Vacherin Mont d’Or grissini and a Chestnut Mont Blanc, all unique to Miracle at Henrietta.
From humble beginnings as a single location in New York in 2014, Miracle has expanded to over 80 new cities across the U.S. and to locations in Asia, Central America and now London for the first time in 2018."
