Buskers Banquet's Musical Supper Clubs around London in January 2024

Buskers Banquet is a supper club and dining series that started in Bristol in 2022, and is now coming to London with 4 events in January 2024.  The concept is a supper club with live performance, and for the 4 London shows they have lined up 4 venues, 4 chefs, and 8 musicians.

They have been very imaginative in the selection, and these offer a great opportunity to try some new food - with two of the nights having plant-based menus - and catch some up and coming musical talent, in a small, intimate space.  

Each night will have a dinner cooked by a local, independent chef, with two musicians performing afterwards.  The four nights are:

Saturday 6th January at Kentish Town Stores in NW5

Dinner by Sexy Suppers, with a menu including a Yellow Curry of Mussels, Stuffed Cod with Makrut Lime & Lemongrass, Sprout Top Fritter.

Music by Danny Starr and Savannah Gardner, who will each be playing an acoustic set

Dinner by Seeds of Wild, with a plant-based menu including their Beluga Lentil daal, charred cabbage with Indian tempered spices, turnip and annatto cream, served with fragrant ancient grains.

Dinner by Grubby, with a plant-based menu including Wild Mushroom Risotto With Herbed Crispy Mushrooms & Chive Oil.

The 'Stumble' Afternoon Festival at Hatch in Homerton

 

Stumble is the sort of event that we all loved before the pandemic - an afternoon of live music with street food, craft beers, cocktails and more.  It is being held at Hatch on Mackintosh Lane, E9 on Saturday 5th March 2022.  Tickets are just £5 to guarantee entry - all details below.

The Ecstatic Peace Library Pop-up Record Store & Gallery in Stoke Newington

On Wednesday 5th February the Ecstatic Peace Library, a pop-up record store, book store and gallery space will open at 96 Stoke Newington Church Street (nearly opposite The Good Egg), for six weeks.  It's a collaboration between musician Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth), artist Edwin Pouncey (aka Savage Pencil), and Pete Flanagan (Zippo Records).  Go along for an eclectic selection of music and more; both Moore and Pouncey will be selling records from their personal collection.

"ECSTATIC PEACE LIBRARY is an exciting new venture from three titans of the music and
underground scene.
Thurston Moore, lead singer of legendary art rock band Sonic Youth is joining his long-time
friend - the seminal underground comic artist, Edwin Pouncey AKA Savage Pencil – to fulfil a
life-long friendship dream come true and finally open a record store / bookstore /
underground newspaper + ephemera outpost / art gallery / radical culture centre... this

They have teamed up with the pioneering record store/label owner Pete Flanagan (of Soho

Singer Hollie Haines' Pop-up for her Album Launch in Old Street Station

Folk singer Hollie Haines is launching her new album The Letters To My Last Love as a pop-up at Old Street Underground - in the tunnels under the roundabout that lead to the tube station - for six days from Monday 4th - Saturday 9th February 2019.  Hollie will be there herself for the whole time, with musician and artist friends, so pop in to enjoy a chat or listen to some music. 

Musicians have used pop-ups before - for example Enter Shakiri opened a pop-up shop in Camden to promote an album three years ago - but this is far more extensive.  Well done Hollie!

"I'm so excited to announce that after the release of my 7-track concept album Letters To My Last Love I will be taking up a week long residence at one Old Street Underground's famous Pop-Up spaces to bring Letters to life in an immersive installation. Me You At Shish - A Vegan Pop-up from You Me At Six & Temple of Seitan in Hackney Downs

You Me At Six, the British rock band, is opening a vegan pop-up called You Me At Shish for one night only on Friday 5th October 2018, to promote their new album VI.  It's in partnership with Temple of Seitan, the Hackney-based 'vegan chicken restaurant'; Temple of Seitan will be doing the food while the band does the misic (presumably), and the night will include a live accoustic set, and the chance to meet the band and buy exclusive merchandise.  This will obviously be very busy - they can sell out good-sized venues - so go early and be prepared to queue.

"You Me At Six teamed up with vegan fast-food business Temple Of Seitan to host a one-off vegan pop-up restaurant event to celebrate the release of their brand new album.
The vegan kebab pop-up will open its doors at 6pm at Temple Goods Cafe in Hackney Downs Studios and will offer a special ‘VI’-themed menu, which will also include ‘VI’-themed cocktails.
The band announced: “To celebrate the release of ‘VI’ we’re having a party in London. Our friends @templeofseitan are putting together a special YMAS vegan menu and YMAS cocktails. Come down, it’s free! 18+ only. (sic)”
Not only will there be plenty of tasty food to tuck into, there will also be an acoustic set from the band at 7pm, followed by DJ sets into the evening.
Fans of both the band and vegan kebabs can show up to this one-night only event where they will be able to meet You Me At Six, buy the album, get exclusive merch and, of course, sample the You Me At Shish menu."

Wahaca's 'Day Of The Dead' Festival in The Vaults under Waterloo Station

Wahaca is going big on The Day Of The Dead - in addition to a week-long feasting menu at all of its restaurants, it is holding a 3 day festival at The Vaults under Waterloo (enter via Leake Street) where the tunnels will host live music, DJs, movies, plus lots of Mexican food and Mezcal.  Tickets are just £25 - £15 for the Saturday daytime session - it'll be an unforgettable experience.

The 'Foo Fighters Arms' Pub Takeover in Bethnal Green

Love this!  To launch their new album Concrete and Gold, the Foo Fighters are taking over a pub at 339 Cambridge Heath Road, Bethnal Green (normally The Dundee Arms) for one week - Friday 15th - Weds 20th September 2017 - with special beer, merch, a pub quiz (Monday night) and more.  I wouldn't expect to see Dave Grohl behind (or propping up) the bar, but you never know...

The Ghana Vista Social Club - Zoe's Ghana Kitchen's Christmas Party in Brixton

Enter Shikari's One Day 'Mindsweep' Pop-up Shop in Camden

Love this.  British band Enter Shikari is opening a pop-up shop at 69 Camden High Street for one day only on Monday 19th January to sell their new album The Mindsweep.  It's open from 11am - 7pm, and they'll be in the store all day, serving customers, signing things and so on.
The idea of a pop-up shop to launch an album isn't new - Bob Dylan did it in Soho in 2012, but I think this is the first time the band has been in the store (Dylan didn't actually appear in his...).

"Monday 19th Jan, between the hours of 11am and 7pm, we’ll be working the counter at our very own Mindsweep Pop-Up Shop in London’s Camden Town!
(69 Camden High Street, so be exact).
We’ll be selling and signing copies of the Mindsweep on CD / CD+DVD / LP, and maybe we’ll even have a couple of the deluxe editions there too (the CD+DVD hardback book is sold out on the webstore, and there’s not a lot of the 12” ones left either).. Plus a new shirt design making its exclusive debut at the shop… and some rarer bits and pieces from the war chest (those of you who came to the Indie Label Market last year will have an idea of the sort of thing we’re talking about). On top of all that “retail”, there’ll be a bunch of stickers, badges and stuff… we’ll have random prize draws… and some bits and bobs to give away that we’ve had up in the office for just such an occasion.
PLUS, there’ll be exclusive art on display by Mr Luke Insect (who put together The Mindsweep album art), and a photo gallery to gaze lovingly at. And some other stuff too, no doubt.
So… yes… please come down and say hello. Anytime between 11am and 7pm! FREE ENTRY, obviously.
PLEASE NOTE; as this is a shop on a busy main road, we HAVE to play by the rules or we’ll get shut down. We can’t have the pavements blocked or anything like that.
We’ll be at the store ALL DAY… so there’s no need to get out there mental early and queue up in the cold or anything.
If it’s busy when you walk past, then just come back half hour later or whatever. This is supposed to be a fun, casual day… so don’t stress on it.

Casa Sabor's Salvador da Bahia Pop-Up near Old Street

Latin American food experts Casa Sabor are back with a 3 day pop-up in mid May, at the wonderful Ozone Coffee Roasters building in Leonard Street, EC2.  This time it's focussing on Brazil's regional capital Salvador Da Bahia with a five course dinner including some modern takes on Brazilian classics.  Plus live music!  It runs from Thurs 8th - Sat 10th - all the booking links you need are below.

"Casa Sabor’s next pop-up, in a new venue around Old Street, will celebrate the food of Brazil and the regional capital Salvador Da Bahia.  A five course menu will cover some of the classics, but also some dishes that would be classed as Modern Brazilian Cuisine, featuring traditional local ingredients cooked in a less traditional manner to emphasise respect for the ingredients, flavoursome contrasts, and healthy balance in what we eat.  We’ll be using all the techniques of the modern kitchen, and to some extent ‘deconstructing’ traditional dishes, to highlight the flavours of fresh fish and seafood, as well as high quality meats, fruit and vegetables.
The evening will be a feast for the ears too!  Bahia is central to Brazil’s music scene. Many of the giants hail from this northeastern state — Caetano Veloso, Tom Zé, Gal Costa, Maria Bethania, Carlinhos Brown, and João Gilberto, the founder of bossa nova. Not forgetting, of course, Olodum, the Afro-Brazilian group featured on Paul Simon’s Rhythm of the Saints.
We are delighted that Ozone Coffee Roasters cafe will be the venue for our next pop-up. The owners are part of the new generation of very serious coffee aficionados and they are lighting up London with really great coffee.
This is fantastic for me as a ‘native’ of the coffee region of Colombia – even though I’ve been living in London for more than twenty years now, I keep my close ties by running our family coffee farm by ‘remote control’ from the heart of Islington! Whilst we can’t (yet) serve you coffee sourced from my own family’s farm, we’re confident that you won’t be disappointed by what Ozone have to offer after dinner."

The 'Fairground' 10 Week Food & Cultural Pop-up in Haggerston

Fairgound is a ten week, Saturday & Sunday pop-up in Kingsland Road, Haggerston featuring food, music and cultural events.  Created by Street Feast founder Dom Cools-Lartigue, it's going to be bringing together some of London's finest talent in a disused office space.

"Fairground will open for 10 weekends from 12 April, taking over three floors of a Haggerston building with each level offering a different experience from a live music venue to a top floor restaurant.
Level one will host Fairground Live, featuring the venue’s main bar and events space. Saturdays will see takeovers by the likes of Run Dem Crew and Field Day while Sundays will host performances by a mix of emerging and established artists.
The Grandaad Lounge will be found at level two and will host a programme of speakers, workshops and masterclasses.
Occupying the top floor will be the Fairground Diner, a restaurant offering views across East London with plans to host a series of pop-ups from London chefs lasting from a weekend up to a month.
Traders from Street Feast will also be taking space across the other two floors including the likes of Yum Bun and Baba G."

Kernow in the City 2014 Cornish Festival in Shoreditch

Kernow in the City, a celebration of all things Cornish, returns to Rich Mix in Bethnal Green Road on Saturday 1st March, close to St Piran's Day, with live music, bilingual comperes, proper Cornish pasties, and proper Cornish beer.  Go and find your inner Cornish person!

"Now in its fifth year, Kernow In The City returns to the Rich Mix Arts Centre, Shoreditch in 2014 for a night of Cornish music, culture and language to celebrate St. Piran’s Day - Cornwall’s national day.
This year’s theme is Cornwall's native language Kernewek. This ancient and unique language was revived in the 20th Century and now has thousands of speakers across Cornwall and beyond.

The Royal Horticultural Society's Harvest Festival Late in Victoria

The Royal Horticultural Society are letting their hair down with another late night event in Victoria - this time to celebrate Harvest Festival, with pumpkins, apple bobbing, cocktails from the Midnight Apothecary, and live music.  Should be lots of fun - gardeners certainly know how to party - but make sure you bring some cash for drinks and nibbles as most stalls won't take card.

Philips' You Need To Hear This Shop at The Old Truman's Brewery of Brick Lane

Philips is hosting a pop-up shop over the weekend of 14th & 15th September where you can try out and buy headphones, and see live DJ-ing from stars like Ossie, Toyboy & Robin, and Cooly G.

The 'Black Market Clash' Pop-up Shop & Exhibition in Soho

Following in the footsteps (kind of) of Jimi Hendrix and Bob Dylan, The Clash are opening a pop-up shop in Soho in September to publicise the remastered releases of the 'The Clash Hits Back' compilation and the 'Sound System' boxset, which contains all of the band's studio albums.  There will also be lots of pictures and bits of memorabilia to see, including manuscripts, clothing and more.

"A pop up store celebrating the work of The Clash is set to open next month in London. 
The Black Market Clash store will mark the remastered releases of the 'The Clash Hits Back' compilation and the 'Sound System' boxset, which contains all of the band's studio albums. The store will be open from September 7-22 at 75 Berwick Street, Soho. The pop-up will also display items from the Clash archive, including instruments, stagewear, rare memorabilia and original manuscripts. 
Art directed and curated by the band and Robert Gordon McHarg lll of The Subway Gallery, the store will be hosting film and video of the band, with the memorabilia and artifact exhibition downstairs, whilst limited items will be for sale on the ground floor.
The store will open on September 6 with an exclusive launch event, which will be attended by the band."

The Launch of The Swan Event Space in Hackney Wick

This Saturday is the launch event for The Swan event space on Fish Island, in the increasingly vibrant Hackney Wick.  Expect live music, DJs, good times, and some really great pizza.

Jameson Presents… Sunday Senses At Dalston Roof Park

Jameson Irish Whiskey are holding a series of Sunday events on Dalston Roof Park in E8, around different themes.  On Sunday 18th it's 'Smell' with all sorts of smelly (& tasty) things to enjoy, plus art and DJs.  Oh - and some whiskey tastings...

"Jameson Irish Whiskey Presents ‘Sunday Senses’ at Dalston Roof Park. Local creatives, musicians, scientists and chefs have been invited to deliver chapters on each sense, with SMELL being celebrated on Sunday August 18th with a day and evening dedicated to all things olfactory. Whiskey and SMELL go hand in hand as the aromatic sweet distinctive notes of caramel and toffee constitute a key element of Jameson’s tasting and enjoyment. Exclusive cocktails and ‘picklebacks’ will be available from the custom made Jameson bar.  
Dalston Roof Park’s visitors will be able to relax, discover the secrets of whiskey at one of the complimentary whiskey tastings and drop to various workshops hosted by scent specialist Odette Toilette. Resident DJ Shamos (NTS) will invite his friends to create the day’s soundtrack.
Perfume house 4160 Tuesdays will recreate scents of favourite action heroes; attendees will be invited to blend raw materials to make the sort of cologne Rocky would have doused on before a bout, or that Hans Solo might have spritzed on before flying a spaceship.
For the artistic ones, Art Macabre will present a ‘Sniff and sketch’ session and translate smell into visual art. Be ready to wield a sharpie and to subject your airways to some seriously unique smells!
Callum Langston-Bolt of London perfume emporium Les Senteurs will be the day’s scent sartorialist and offer group and one to one sessions on the etiquette of fragrance.
The day will close with Smells on Screen, a finale tour through films, with a scent twist. Taking in westerns, sci-fi, film noir and thriller, Odette will give the audience some of the most unusual of contemporary niche fragrances to try, each one connected with one of the film shorts.
Food will also be available on the roof with Hanoi Kitchen serving their tasty fragrant Banh Mi.
Sunday Senses will be back in September with a Whiskey & Words dedicated to ‘SIGHT’ on the 8th and a closing event celebrating ‘TASTE’ on the 15th, with Dalston Roof Park’s in-house restaurant Merci Marie teaming up with experimental food specialists the Robin Collective.
Local artist Rob Whoriskey’s art show Oyster Flesh continues downstairs at the Print Gallery until September 6th."

Camden Beach with Food, Drink and Live Music, at The Roundhouse

For four weeks the terrace at the Roundhouse turns into Camden Beach, sponsored by Time Out and Farah Vintage.  There will be lots of sand, and also food & drink from people like Tiki, Rum Shack-A-Lak, Fishy Business, and Arkansas Cafe.  Entry is free, but you might want to book your own private beach hut for you and friends - see details here.  & Every Friday night Farah Vintage will be holding live music sessions - see below for full listing.

"Summer has finally arrived, which is handy as the Roundhouse is about to bring back the now-legendary Camden Beach. Tucked away on our sunny terrace, this little slice of paradise in the heart of North London attracted over 40,000 visitors last year, and is back bigger and better than before.
Think 900 square metres and 150 tonnes of the finest sand, end-of-the-pier amusements, deckchairs, beach huts, ping pong, live music, tasty food, ice-cold drinks and loads more. If you can’t get to the beach, the Roundhouse is bringing the beach to you!
Entry to the beach will remain free this year; it gets busy though, so if you want to guarantee your spot in the sun you can hire one of our three beautiful beach huts. You’ll get your very own fenced-off area, deckchairs, drinks, BBQ platter, ice cream and more."
Music from Farah Vintage:
"By partnering with the Roundhouse creative programme, Farah Vintage will provide a professional platform for emerging artists to perform live on stage every Friday night throughout the month of August. Beginning on the 2nd of August, the event aims to provide a unique opportunity for a nurtured pool of talent to develop their skills and realize their creative potential.
Audiences will be treated to a wide range of artists & genres from 8pm to 10pm across the Friday’s including:
2nd August – Urban Soul – Whitney, Cynikal, JJsoulx & Milo (DJ set)
9th August – Lo-­‐fi/Experimental – Ajimal, Iyes, Shirt Static & Lorna (DJ set)
16th August – Acoustic/Indie – JoelBaker, Sophie Blackburn & Fatherson
23rd August – Reggae Ensemble – Mammoth Sound, Tempting Rosie & Emmanuel/DJ Edott (DJ set)
The brand will also host a Farah Beach Hut, a small cabin catering for up to 10 people and the opportunity to enjoy the beach in style and comfort, which beach goers will be able to hire as a private area. During Farah Friday’s Live, the Farah Beach Hut will transform into a Farah Vintage clothing store where guests will be able to purchase exclusive items from the new AW13 Collection."

May's Raiders of the Last Tube Club Night with 2 Live Acts in Islington

Raiders of The Last Tube are holding another club night in Islington on Thursday 9th May.  You get to see two artists or bands -  Gliss at 7.30pm and Misty Miller at 8.30pm - a DJ, get to buy a MEATliquor burger, and as it's a school night you leave at 11.30...

"A pioneering new night featuring new artists and exploring the benefits of gigging, dancing, eating and getting to bed on time.
In conjunction with MEATliquor we will be providing you the chance, once a month, to see some of the best brand new bands and DJs all whilst enjoying London’s number one burger.
Once upon a time no one noticed if you turned up to work sweating neat alcohol and smelling like the band's tour bus (who you saw last night) on ahealthy 5 hours sleep. But being part of being a 'grown-up' doesn’t have to mean missing out on seeing the bands you love…
ROTLT brings you an uncannily pedestrian solution; the after work gig and disco. Direct from work you can stop off and see 2 bands, eat a tasty burger and have a dance. And not just any old bands; The Secret Garden Party's ‘Where the Wild Things Are’ stage and the Head Gardener will be curating the best new acts they can find. Our friends at MEATliquor will be cooking you London's very best burger, and Nice Boy DJs (Early Doors Disco) and the Head Gardener will make sure you can’t stop moving until… 11.30pm when you are sent home before it’s too late."
