Marie Gonfond is holding a pop-up at her restaurant Merci Marie in E8 on Saturday 15th March, to focus on food from around the world - a culinary ‘Around The World in 80 days’. It's £35 for all the courses, and it's also BYOB - but please don't all bring bottles from the same country!
"Merci Marie is a hidden foodie bolthole in Dalston, set to take guests on a culinary journey with a daring pop-up for one-night with ‘Around The World in 80 days’. Inspired by the cult novel, a special dinner has been curated by head chef, Marie Gonfond with an evolving menu featuring flavours of the world from Japan, Thailand, Turkey, Morocco and Mexico with her signature French twist and all produce sourced locally from Dalston.
Marie Gonfond is the talent and name behind Merci Marie and places a huge emphasis on the quality of all of her ingredients, ensuring that she only uses free-range meat, organic eggs and sustainable fish. Merci Marie is a unique, relaxed restaurant and café tucked away in Fitzroy House; an old warehouse now used by local creative businesses in Dalston and is the hidden location for the special event.
Shared starters of exotic fare, includes a selection of world cuisine in tapas style. Expect Chicken Karaage with tsukemono sauce from Japan alongside Lamb Kofte wrapped in pickled cucumber and pomegranate from Turkey and home made chunky guacamole from Mexico, plus a number of other exotic dishes.
For main, guests can choose between Moroccan slow cooked beef ribs in spices and preserved lemon served with an aubergine salad, Thai Sea bass curry with a green spicy mango salad, or a stew of Barrigoule artichokes and baby garden vegetables, inspired by French home cooking.
Dessert will look to the USA for inspiration with a chocolate peanut butter fudge sundae, an Italian style basil panna cotta with pistachio biscuit and black sticky rice with mango and coconut cream and toasted sesame seeds from the flavours of Japan."
