The Golpar Persian Supper Club's Tabriz Dinner in Fitzrovia


The Golpar Supper Club, at Gitane Restaurant in Great Titchfield Street, holds regular Persian dinners, focussing on cuisine from different parts of the country.  On Saturday 18th April it will be from the city of Tabriz which is the capital of the East Azerbaijan province, including Kufteh Tabrizi, aromatic meat and rice balls, stuffed with fruit & berries.  This dinner costs just £29.50, and it is BYOB.

"My family (Negar) is originally from the city of Tabriz which is the capital of the East Azerbaijan province. Azeri women take pride in cooking scrumptious food and there has always been a sense of competition amongst them in terms of both cooking and presentation. I remember my grandmother was never satisfied with serving one type of dish on the dinner table and she loved to cater for different tastes. During the jam making season one could find almost every color possible from fresh walnut to watermelon skin and barberries to strawberries my grandmother, a typical Turkish woman from Tabriz used to make and share amongst all her children.  
The Azerbaijan region benefits from a mountain climate and there are numerous rivers and lakes. Agriculture is an important industry and variety of grains, fruits, cotton, rice, nuts, and tobacco are amongst the few that supplies the whole of the country.
Dolmeh is a traditional delicious Azerbaijani food. It is prepared with eggplant, capsicum, tomato or zucchini filled with a mixture of meat, split peas, onion, various spices and fresh herbs.
Koofteh Tabrizi is a special recipe from Tabriz with a shape of big meatballs, which are prepared by a mixture of meat, rice, aromatic herbs, saffron and fried fruits such as apricot and berries.
