For two Sundays - 14th and 28th August 2016 - Ben Spalding will be cooking up a set of ten small plates for under a tenner each at St Bart's Brewery in West Smithfield, with musicians and DJs playing live sets. "St Bart’s Brewery in Farringdon is pleased to announce weekend residencies on 14th and 28th August with Chef Ben Spalding and his new concept ‘Small Plate Sessions,’ which will present an enticing and affordable menu in line with Ben’s cutting-edge style at the destination venue. Diners can expect two delicious and discofied day-to-evening events with 10 dishes under £10 accompanied by the buzz of talented underground electronic music producers and DJs playing live sets.
Having trained at some of the world’s finest Michelin starred restaurants, in 2011 Ben returned to the UK wanting to break away from stiff fine dining attitudes and launched his dining concepts to much acclaim. These include StrippedBack (fine dining without pretensions) and NoRules (dinners cooked in front of guests). 2016 now sees Ben holding ‘Small Plate Sessions,’ which explore another of his major passions – introducing music into his cooking.
The Small Plate Sessions menu*, in line with Ben’s trademark laid-back approach is an ever-evolving, well balanced, exciting and playful menu of Michelin standard quality without the price tag. Dishes at past events include:
Sticky piggy ribs seasoned with bonfire salt, mango & crème fraiche (£8)
Smoked mackerel tacos, teriyaki broccoli, soured cream (£9)
Lamb neck marinated in Douglas fir oil, tom yum mayonnaise, super sour pomegranate, powdered sweet corn & toasted pumpkin seeds (£10)
Praline, crispy pastry, crunchie dust & iced marjoram (£7)"
