The Asia House Winter Fair in Marylebone

The Asia House Winter Fair is coming to Cavendish Street, Marylebone for 3 days in December, with lots of stalls from all over Asia showing and selling their wares.  I went to the event in April, and was amazed by the quality and value offered.  Definitely recommend this one for getting unusual Christmas presents!

The fifth fair brings together over 35 exhibitors, selected to represent the best in arts, design and hand-craftsmanship from across the Asian region, including jewellery, textiles, furniture, art, books, ornaments, clothes and handicrafts. This festive edition will present you the opportunity to buy unique gifts not normally seen on the high street."

Thanksgiving Night at Redhook in Clerkenwell

Redhook in Farringdon / Clerkenwell is holding a special Thanksgiving night feast on Thursday the 28th November, with a mouthwatering menu that includes scallops, turkey, and pecan pie.  Plus there'll be hot punch, and lots of drinks to choose from in their very well stocked bar.  Redhook has quite a following with Americans in London - they held an election party in 2011 - and so don't miss your chance to get tickets for this.

"Steaks, oysters, wines from across the Americas – we’ve got a lot to be thankful for.  But on Thursday 28 November we’ll be giving thanks to a whole lot more.
Our exec chef James Lawrence has designed a traditional Thanksgiving menu with a couple of Redhook flourishes and we think it’s brilliant. You don’t have to be North American to get involved, but you should have a soft spot for turkey (or squash risotto), trimmings and pecan pie.
Guests will be welcomed with a Thanksgiving Punch full of autumnal cheer. Take the edge off a nippy November night with a steaming glass of Woodford Reserve bourbon lengthened with port, lemon, orange and cinnamon.
To start there are seared scallops with cauliflower purée or a goats cheese and sweet potato salad with honey walnuts. Following closely is the main event - roast turkey breast with sausage & herb stuffing, chestnuts, sprouts and the king of Thanksgiving condiments, cranberry sauce. Our vegetarian friends will be treated to an equally delicious squash risotto with blue cheese, pine nuts and parsley.
And then there’s pudding (dessert). Choose between a pineapple crostata with chilli, ginger and coconut ice cream or a classic pecan pie with a big spoonful of crème fraîche.
Our Thanksgiving menu costs £35 per person. We're currently taking bookings for party sizes 4-20 (or 10-16 if you’d prefer to tuck yourself away in our private dining room)."

When - Thursday 28th November 2013

Where - Redhook, 89 Turnmill Street, EC1M 5QU

Cost - £35 in advance from Redhook on 020 7065 6800

33 Pop-up French Restaurant in Dalston

33 Pop-up is a new venture from Howard & Emmanuel, who want to bring the flavours of France to London.  It's in Dalston from Friday 29th Nov to Sunday 1st Dec, with 4 sittings - 3 dinners and lunch on Sunday.

"'33' will be popping up in Dalston this month bringing classic food from France's most indulgent region to Hackney's hungry hoards.
For it's first outing, 33 will feature a set price menu with one sitting each night, transforming Cafe Bliss, 9 Dalston Lane, into a little corner of the Gironde. The menu's highlight is Magret de Canard (grilled duck breast) a regional classic which was voted France's favourite meal in 2013. Oysters and salt cod appetisers bring the tastes of the area's Atlantic coastline, and indulgent desserts from residents pastry chef Helen A round off the night. The Bordeaux region also produces just a bit of wine, so the fixed price of £35 includes a half bottle.
As well as showcasing the region's food, 33 is driven by the sense of occasion and conviviality which French eating culture is all about. Howard and Emmanuel, the 33 boys, explain:
Emmanuel - "My family is from Bordeaux, and for years the English friends I've taken there have been blown away by the amazing food. It's about time Londoners were reminded French restaurants aren't all about michelin stars and rude waiters in Mayfair. When you arrive at your table at 33 there'll be a bottle for you to crack into straight away, and since we're only taking reservations for one sitting each night you can relax and enjoy your evening."
Howard - "Most of us have been on one of those trips to France where you spend most of the time eating, drinking and laughing with friends. That's the atmosphere we're recreating at 33. Conviviality, and that rich delicious 'Sud Ouest' food that's famous i France and perfect for a cold London winter night.""

When - Friday 29th November - Sunday 1st December for dinner, plus lunch on the Sunday

Where - Cafe Bliss, 9 Dalston Lane, London E8 3DF

Tickets - £35 from here

Giles Clark and Tutto Wines' Sunday Lunch at The Rooftop Cafe in London Bridge

On Sunday 24th November, chef and YBF winner Giles Clark (Young Turks, St John, Koya) and Tutto Wines are hosting a 4 course Sunday Lunch with paired wines at The Rooftop Cafe on London Bridge Road.  A rare chance to experience this fast-rising talent away from his regular restaurants.

"Even by todays standards, chef Giles Clark has covered a lot of ground for a young chef. While studying at Trinity College in Dublin and working at the 2 Michelin Star Patrick Guilbauds, Giles would spend his summers staging in the kitchens around the world that inspired him. These included Alice Waters' Chez Panisse, New York's Union Square Cafe, Alinea in Chicago and Copenhagen's Noma.
Since returning to London he has worked for the Young Turks as part of their residency at the 10 Bells and more recently at Spitalfields' St John Bread and Wine. He is currently sous chef at Soho restaurant Koya, where he and head chef Junya Yamasaki do wonderful things combining  British produce with Japanese technique. Giles was recently voted Best Chef 2013 by a panel of peers in the Young British Foodie awards, where he was praised for his innovation and is undoubtedly one of the most exciting talents cooking in the UK today.
Alex Whyte and Damiano Fiamma started Tutto Wines to share with London the wines of Italy that they love to drink. These are wine from growers who have a respect for the grape, the land and Italy's winemaking traditions. From the delicate alpine Nebbiolo of Valtellina to Marsala's thewy, salty Grillo. Thrilling wines from grapes and places you may not have heard out but will undoubtedly love.
They travel to Italy regularly to seek out wines of balance, grace and most of all drinkability. Wines that speak of where they are from and complement the food on the table. Tutto Wines supply many of London's top restaurants including The Rooftop Cafe and we can't wait to see what they'll be pouring at this event."

When - Sunday 24th November from 1pm - 6pm

Where - The Rooftop Cafe, 28 London Bridge Street, SE1 9SG

Ben Spalding's 'NO RULES' Dinners in Shoreditch

Ben Spalding is back with a new concept called NO RULES - diners bring along two ingredients, their favourite and least favourite, and Ben and his team prepare and cook all of the food just a few feet from the diners.  It sounds like an amazing 'chef's table' style experience and it's happening after hours at a coffee shop in Shoreditch, over five nights in the run up to Christmas.  It's not cheap, but you'll definitely get what you pay for.

"We are on the table just a few feet from you, we prepare, create & cook the entire menu on the spot in front of you, it is almost like being able to sit on a busy chef's section in a restaurant & watch them prepare everything. It’s the ultimate eating experience with complete honesty & trust from the guest to me & me to the guest which I believe will break new ground in eating food.
Although it’s called NO RULES there are three RULES.
1. There is no menu. To push the experience further & make things a little more interesting, we ask you to bring your favorite ingredient & your least favorite ingredient, we can’t know about them in advance and they do not have to be expensive, something simple and humble usually is best. The ingredient must be something that is actually edible or can be used to flavour something, possibly something that means something to you or your origin or background, we politely ask that nothing like ‘tripe’ is brought as this can take several days to prepare!
2. We must serve both ingredients that all the guests bring during some point in the meal.
3. What ever we cook during a No Rules meal must most importantly be delicious- this is the one rule that must NEVER be forgotten, as all the smoke and mirrors in the world mean nothing if the key thing is overlooked, the enjoyment of the food."

When - 19th & 30th November, 7th, 14th & 20th December 7:30pm - late

Where - Allpress Espresso, 58 Redchurch Street, Shoreditch, E2 7DP

Tickets - £80 from Billetto here

Mama Brown’s Pop-Up Experience on The King's Road

Mama Brown's is a combined art, fashion and food pop-up running from 26th November to 15th December on the King's Road, featuring vintage clothing, lots of stalls from artists and designers, and a Middle Eastern-inspired cafe with Miro's Love Bites.

"Mama Brown’s Pop-Up Experience is back, taking over an old Victorian postal sorting warehouse on London’s infamous King’s Road. Visited by Zara Martin, a slew of Made in Chelseaers and top media last time around, the next edition anticipates a footfall of over 7,000 visitors.
Designed to capture the Christmas retail period, the edgy living room-esque emporium – decked out in specially curated graffiti, aims to combine art, fashion and food all under one roof. Produced by Suzi Brown – a pioneer of one of Notting Hill’s first ever vintage shops – the exclusive three-week event will serve up a total of 72 carefully handpicked emerging and established designers and artists from all over the world, alongside an organic feast homemade everyday by the founder herself.
"Growing up in a blend of Middle Eastern cultures, the kitchen was the soul of our house,” explains founder, Suzi. “It was here that I learned to appreciate the finer things in life: good food, and later fashion and art. Much like my own home, Mama Brown’s Pop-Up Experience brings all these things together. I'd love to invite the whole of London around to my house, but I can't fit everyone in so I've got a warehouse in Chelsea instead.”
True to Mama Brown’s tradition, the menu - prepared by Mama Brown and her kitchen partner Mirielle Masri of Miro's Love Bites, will encompass home-cooked Middle Eastern treats inspired by her childhood pantry; whilst lounge-style sofas invite guests to sit back, relax under hanging globes of perfect lighting and take advantage of a fully functional bar boasting Champagne, HECSAU Cognac Café and Imperial Collection Gold Vodka – all provided by luxury product specialists Signature Lifestyles, as well as a premium selection of red and white wines.
A DJ will be spinning tracks to the eclectic mix of exhibitors who are travelling far and wide to participate in Mama Brown’s renowned Chelsea event. Stands will include millinery from Piers Atkinson, accessories and clothing from Funky Bling and Year Zero, fine jewellery courtesy of Tateossian, cashmere from Tania, luxury men’s leather accessories via Mark/Giusti, ready-to-wear from Saudi Arabia’s Nasiba Hafiz, flowering headbands from Floronets, furniture from DN Design, and clothing, shoes and jewellery from The Village Bicycle. Mama Brown will be dipping into her own private art collection to decorate the space, and of course if anyone sees anything from the collection that they would like to purchase, well…everything is for sale.
Mama Brown’s Pop-Up Experience was founded by Suzi Brown in 2013. Succeeding a hugely successful launch at London’s 54 Russell Gardens, Kensington in June 2013, the event is back by popular demand. Previous to this, Suzi ran a vintage shop on Ledbury Road, Notting Hill called The Hive. The business was operational for six years. Suzi is an avid art collector, gourmet cook and London’s ultimate hostess."

When - Tues 26th Nov - Sun 15th Dec, Tues - Sun, 10am - 7pm

Where - 232 King’s Road, SW3 5UD
