Guest Post - Supper Clubs & Food Events wanted for The Queens Wood Cafe near Highgate & Muswell Hill

I'm sure this interesting and imaginative space near Highgate would be perfect for a supper club or small pop-up restaurant - have a look at the pictures & blurb below, and if you're interested, the contact details are at the bottom.

"Queen’s Wood Café is lovely cafe with a Victorian veranda and its own organic garden and solar panels. We are located inside the ancient and magical Queen's Wood,  5 minute’s walk from Highgate Tube station and on the 43 and 134 bus routes. We have been called “the best café on the Capital Ring”!

We can seat 24 people comfortably in the café and another 16 on the veranda. We have a commercial kitchen with a double oven, 2 microwaves, toaster oven and grill, fridges and freezers on the same level as the café. We have a bar area and are fully licensed.
In the evening we hold a selection of classes, music and poetry events, talks and a writers ‘group. We also host parties for children and adults on the weekends and sometimes even weddings with up to 60 guests.

We are keen to start hosting pop-up suppers and food and wine tasting events. We are looking for a gifted chef who has experience hosting supper clubs and pop up dinner and who would like to use our venue or work with us to provide some unusual feasts – perhaps historic or fairytale dinners with a theatrical theme or something along these lines? We could incorporate a quest through the woods to our secret destination…

If this piques your curiosity, have a peek at our website www.queenswoodcafe.co.uk or phone us on 0208 444-2604"

HAM's 2nd Birthday Pop-up Shop for Gifts, Paper Goods & Homewares at Boxpark

Quirky British gifts and homewares brand HAM is popping up for 4 days at Boxpark this July to celebrate it's 2nd birthday.  I remember meeting Jo at her first ever pop-up at Kingly Court back in 2011 - this site was also very new - and it's been great to see the brand's progress since then.

"This July, British homeware and paper goods brand HAM turns two! To celebrate HAM will be popping up at Boxpark, launching its very latest design ʻFlying Rabbitʼ and showcasing its first collection of carefully crafted notebooks.
From Wednesday 10th July to Sunday 14th July, HAM will open its birthday store at Unit 8, Boxpark, East London. The full range will be on sale, including its sought after screen prints, now available for the first time in a larger size. Along with HAM’s latest design, Flying Rabbit, Jo will also be launching the brandʼs first set of British made lined notebooks featuring HAMʼs popular Rabbit designs.
Over the past two years HAM has gained a following for its bold silhouettes capturingunexpected moments from the contented lives of a Pig, a Rabbit and a Horse.
HAM's minimal aesthetic seeks to add a serious edge to its playful subject matter. Nostalgia and a fascination with the banal are key themes that continue to inform Joʼs growing range of animal motifs, which can be found on premium cotton tea towels (£9), hand pulled screen prints (standard £28 and large £42), lined notebooks (£5.50), fine bone china mugs (£11) and litho printed greeting cards (£2.75)."

When - 10th - 14th July
(Wed to Sat:12pm – 8pm, Sunday:10am – 6pm)

Where - HAM, Unit 8, Boxpark, Bethnal Green Road, London, E1 6GY

A 'Brideshead Revisited' Supper Club at The Idler Academy in Westbourne Park

On Wednesday 17th July  joinn a one night celebration of Evelyn Waugh's best / best known novel Brideshead Revisited, at The Idler Academy in Westbourne Park Road.  Expect an indulgent night, with quail's eggs, cocktails, and readings from the book.  'Dressing up is positively encouraged'!

"In this special Supper Club Claire Coutinho of pop-up dining club The Novel Diner teams up with the Idler Academy. You are invited into the heady, decadent world of Evelyn Waugh’s Brideshead Revisited. For one night come and be a pre-War Bright Young Thing:
“Oxford, in those days, was still a city of aquatint… The bells rang out high and clear over her gables and cupolas, exhaled the soft airs of centuries of youth. It was this cloistral hush which gave our laughter its resonance, and carried it still, joyously, over the intervening clamour.”
You will be indulged with Hendrick’s gin cocktails, canapés of Caviar aux Blinis followed by three course feast of Quails Eggs in edible nest, Duck Breast, Victoria Sponge and Strawberries, and Port. Our very own Charles Ryder will entertain you with readings from Brideshead Revisited. Beautiful editions of Evelyn Waugh books will be on sale.
Dressing up is positively encouraged, so get out the Oxford bags and flapper dresses whether you are a Sebastian, Julia, Anthony Blanche or even, perhaps, an Aloysius.
Champagne, Port and other fine wines will be available to buy."

The Late Knights Brewery's Beer Rebellion Pop-up Pub in Gipsy Hill

Beer Rebellion is a pop-up bar in Gypsy Hill from Late Knights Brewery.  There are lots of beers from Late Knights, plus lots of guest beers, cider, whisky and more.  It's initially open for 3 months (from May, I think) - please support them!  & thanks to The London Junction for the tip!

"A rebellion does seem a little bit drastic I know, but as much as we want to stand for great beer, it also sounds quite nice!  Our first pop-up bar is now open in Gipsy Hill SE19, directly opposite the Gipsy Hill train station.
We have taken a 3 month deal to get this place open and see how things go, and one week in the signs are good.
We keep it simple at our first bar, we serve whisky, beer, wine and cider and we try to keep everything from small producers who we like!
I think you will have guess from my previous posts that our main goal is to work with great people and this starts with suppliers.  We have local beer from Peter down the road at 'A head in a hat' brewery, Lera and Matthew at Shamblemoose, Duncan at Clarence and Fredrick's to name but a few.
We have 8 rotating cask beers, 3 ciders, 1 crafty little cider and a growing range of American and British bottles (40 at present)"

Following the success of her previous events, 'Dessert Deli' chef Laura Amos is hosting a further Sunday lunch on 14th July at her kitchen in Battersea.  I've eaten one of Laura's roasts, and it was very memorable!  It's £25 for a very hearty lunch, and it's BYOB.  This time - Pork!

"Those of you who know me, know I have a 'Savoury Tooth' although I make desserts for a living, running The Dessert Deli. But love nothing more than a 'hearty' roast on a Sunday. Think this comes from being a Dorset girl.
Good joint of meat, loads of crispy on the outside & soft on the inside potatoes, tasty well seasoned veg, big Yorshire puds and lashings of gravy!!
On the other hand, I would love to do a 'Dessert Pop Up' with some of your favourites from my Cookbook The Dessert Deli http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Dessert-Deli-Laura-Amos/dp/1909039020 , however don't want you to 'OD' on sugar alone so I have combined the two, to host...........
The Dessert Deli 'Hearty' Sunday Roast & 'Scrumptious' Dessert - 'Kitchen Pop Up'
Menu will be Roast Pork with the works, followed by a dessert from The Dessert Deli Cookbook.
Chilled, fun, Sunday afternoon amongst friends eating good food at The Dessert Deli kitchen. By the time you leave you will be 'fit to burst' :)
BYO Alcohol, however soft refreshments will be provided."

Regular popper-uppers The Art of Dining are back with another impressive venue and concept, this time at The National Trust's Fenton House in Hampstead, with live performance and excellent food as ever, spread over six nights in mid July.

"Taking place on 16th – 21st July 2013 in the house and gardens of Fenton House, a beguiling National Trust property in Hampstead, this pop up restaurant involves an exceptional mix of design, food and entertainment on the theme of decadence, edible gardens and naughty behaviour!

BBQWhiskyBeer at The Wargrave Arms in Marylebone

BBQ experts (& winners of yesterday's #RibStock) BBQWhiskyBeer have popped up at The Wargrave Arms off Edgeware Road to serve ribs, burgers, pulled pork and more.  No tickets - just turn up hungry!

"After a successful first pop up, BBQWhiskyBeer has returned for a second stint to offer London a collection of dirty burgers, smoking whisky and filthy blues.
Taking over The Wargrave Arms, a beautiful old pub off the Edgeware Road. The menu features favourites such as the Classic (A 7oz beef patty with bacon and cheese in a brioche bun, BBQ Pork (Classic patty topped with 24hr smoked pulled pork topped with coleslaw), Southern Fried Chicken Livers, Pork Ribs and not forgetting the Cornflake Sundae (Made from cornflakes steeped in milk, topped with whipped cream and chocolate sauce).
The menu also has a few new faces including the Oxtail Chill (Classic patty, oxtail chilli, dirty water dog and nachos). And look out for special guest appearances such as latest love child, ladder beef rib The Jacob - this three day smoked beast is finished on a charcoal grill with chimichurri sauce.
And to drink? Choose from one of the biggest selections of single malts in London. They carry a bottle from every distillery still producing whisky in Scotland (and a number of closed distilleries). Beers include quality casks from London breweries, craft bottles and for those in the know, they always have something special under the counter.
BBQWhiskyBeer does everything it says on the tin, if you missed it the first time round think of this as Lady Luck giving you a second chance."

The Ludlow Food Festival at The Cookbook Cafe in the InterContinental Park Lane

I really like this:  The InterContinental in Park Lane is hosting a series of activities to promote local producers from Ludlow, the Shropshire market town, on 9th - 12th July, in their Cookbook Cafe.  There are lots of events planned, including lunches and tastings every day.  For full details of what's going on day by day have a look here

"InterContinental London Park Lane has announced a taster of the internationally renowned Ludlow Food and Drink Festival on 9th - 12th July 2013.  Hosted in the hotel’s Cookbook Cafe, which champions sustainable ingredients, the festival will welcome top independent food and drink producers from the small town with a large reputation for gastronomy.
Executive Chef Paul Bates has worked closely with the festival organisers to pick from the world-class farms and speciality producers in Ludlow, recently named one of Britain’s top spot for foodies. Chef Bates will create a daily-changing lunch and dinner menu that celebrates key suppliers including Oliver’s Cider and Perry Ltd, Brock Hall Farm cheese, Forest Pig, Great Berwick Organic beef, Fordhall Farm organic lamb, and Bonbonniere chocolates.
The Cookbook Cafe Market Table will be brimming with Ludlow produce, local charcuterie and cheeses, and along with daily changing desserts featuring apples, berries and strawberries from Siddington Farms. In addition to Oliver’s Cider and Perry Ltd, diners can enjoy Hobson’s Brewery real ales and Chase English vodka served with local elderflower cordials from Nurses Cottage Drinks.
In the evenings, family-style dishes will be accompanied by a demonstration, tastings, and talks from local producers. During lunch Cookbook Cafe’s interactive cooking station will be transformed into a Ludlow deli, serving made-to-order sandwiches and rustic soups."

When - Tuesday 9th - Friday 12th July

Where - InterContinental London Park Lane, One Hamilton Place, Park Lane, W1J 7QY

KERB Saturdays at Granary Square, King's Cross

Street food experts KERB have unveiled another regular event - Saturdays at Granary Square, outside Central St Martins college, and just North of King's Cross station.  So far just three are planned - 29th June, 3rd August & 7th September, but if this works (& we hope it will) there are plans to roll out to other parts of the city.  Please support this!

"Granary Square is an interesting space - over-looked by the imposing Central St Martins, fringed by two brilliant and unusual restaurants, carpetted with beds of fountains, hemmed by a canal and peppered with a copse of trees - and now we are turning it into a space for a new kind of Saturday market for the city. If we can make it here then we're in a great position to take the idea to other parts of London. The 29th June is the first of this 3-part KERB Saturdays pilot - part 2 is in August, part 3 in September. Come and help us make it happen - and as ever, come hungry!
Examples of Food: Oyster Po'boys, beef ribs, technicolour tacos, meatball sliders, schnitzel sandwiches, shebeen favourites, Heartbreaker burgers, gyoza, homemade iced lollies, ice cream sandwiches...and more
Examples of Drinks: homemade ginger beer, rhubarb soda, yellow tomato Bloody Marys, casks of beer, Caravan coffee, proper tea
Added extras: Food-Cycle reclaimed snacks, the Calthorpe Project homemade chutneys + shrubs, newspapers, deck chairs"

When - Saturdays - 29th June, 3rd August, 7th September - 11am - 3pm

Where - Granary Square, N1C 4AA
