Bookstock 7 Literary Night near Great Portland Street

Bookstock is an occasional but regular literary night featuring 4 authors reading and talking about their work.  It's organised by the very well established North London Reading Group.  Their last event (Bookstock 6) was back in November, in the same venue.

"We've five varied fiction & non-fiction writers who will be reading and discussing their works at the cosy Green Man pub in Euston from 7pm:
* Ben Crystal - the 'Jamie Oliver of Shakespeare'
* Keith Kahn Harris - travel writer tracking down the best waterskiier in Luxembourg and other unsung heroes
* TD Griggs - Aussie author of Raj-set epic 'Distant Thunder'
* Ruby Soames - writer of the mysterious 'Seven Days to Tell You'
* Andrew Byrne - Muswell Hill debut author of 'Some Place South of Perfect"
Stand-up and panellist on Loaded TV's Lads' Lit Dave Chawner will be compering. There will also be plenty of chance to meet and swap books with like-minded literary folk, get books signed by the authors, win prizes, and join book groups.
On the night we will also be collecting spare books from attendees for the Arlington homeless hostel in Camden, to try and fill its empty bookshelves."

"It's a cosy literary night this Saturday 3 November, where literary lovers in London can see three varied, indie authors (Christopher Fowler, Bobby Nayyar and Hayley Webster) read and discuss their works. This time we are popping-up in the lovely Green Man pub in NW1. Seasoned comedy actor Lewis Harrison-Barker is compering and there will also be plenty of chance to meet and swap books with like-minded literary folk, get books signed by the authors, and win prizes.
It's organised by the North London Reading Group whose aim is to get London reading more widely. All readers are welcome, and there will be plenty of book groups there on the night to introduce them to if they want to discuss the books they are looking to curl up with over the dark winter months!"

Pop-up Literary Wonderland near London Bridge

This is a great event for a great cause.  The Royal National Institute of Blind People has arranged a three day literary festival near London Bridge, from the 18th October, themed around Alice in Wonderland.

"A three day literary wonderland will descend on the banks of the River Thames from 18 October, where some of the nation's best-loved authors will transport families to a magical world of stories to mark Read for RNIB Day.
Research found that only seven per cent of books are accessible to almost 2 million blind and partially sighted people in the UK. This is something RNIB is set on changing. To highlight the importance of reading, RNIB will host a literary wonderland packed with things for children to see, touch, smell and hear, bringing the magic of reading to life.
Decorated with imagery from Alice in Wonderland, the area will be divided into five distinct sections, each designed for families to get stuck in, have fun, learn about Read for RNIB Day and perhaps go on to host their own literary event. Starting with 'falling' through the rabbit hole just like Alice, guests will be able to sit in the enchanting Mad Hatter's story corner and listen to well-known children's tales or visit the forest of talking mushrooms to hear quotes from familiar novels. Unusual treats featured in famous children's stories will be on offer or children can help bring words to life through touch. Books, including signed copies, will also be available to purchase with all proceeds donated to the charity.
Authors and celebrities including TV presenter of The Gadget Show and children's author Jason Bradbury, children's author Sally Gardner, author of the Monstrous Maud books A. B. Saddlewick and CBBC presenter Ben Hanlin will be joining activities throughout the three days to host reading workshops designed to help children discover the thrill of reading and encouraging them to read aloud.
Actor Michael Sheen OBE has recorded quotes from well known children's books which will be played at the event. He said: "Reading and stories are such an important part of childhood; they're what inspired me to write. It's terrible to think that somepeople are denied this because they can't see. I heard about RNIB's work and wanted to get involved in Read for RNIB Day. We hope to inspire and encourage people to read and get involved in the campaign which raises funds for services such as RNIB's National Library Service which offers books in alternative formats to blind and partially sighted people.""

The Poor Press Literary Pop-up & Party in Southwark

The Poor Press last popped up back in July when they held a speakeasy in Hampstead.  Now they're back, but this time in Southwark, to celebrate (& read from) the first issue of their literary magazine.

"The Poor Press' first issue launches on Saturday October the 6th. Come and celebrate with us!
We've secured a brilliant location in The Nursery, a converted railway arch in SE1, where there will be a cheap bar, readings from our authors, and music, as well as a chance to buy a copy of our hand numbered, limited edition print run of Hand to Mouth.
The collection features photography from the talented Corinne Perry, a brand new story from Kevin Fanning, author of Jennifer Love Hewitt Times Infinity, as well as original poetry and short prose from writers up and down the country and across the sea. The Poor Press' Pop-up Literary Speakeasy in Hampstead

The Poor Press, a new literary magazine, have announced a special night of poetry readings and other delights, complete with cocktails, at a special secret speakeasy.

"You are invited to join The Poor Press in a pop up speakeasy for an evening of poetry readings and discussion, poets from the floor welcome.
