The 'Vintage Salt' Summer 2015 Restaurant & Bar on Selfridges' Rooftop

This summer Selfridges' rooftop restaurant is transforming into Vintage Salt, taking its inspiration from the vibe and food of a Cornish fishing village, with a beach hut bar, deckchairs, serving food like lobster butties, fish finger sandwiches, and more.  Open from 11am - 11pm Monday - Saturday, and 12 noon - 6pm on Sundays, it's the perfect place to chill between shopping trips, or just to watch the sun go down.

"On 1st May, renowned restaurateur Des McDonald, will launch his third pop-up restaurant at Selfridges; On the Roof with Vintage Salt. Open for five months, Vintage Salt will kick off Selfridges’ ‘Great British Outdoors’ campaign.  This British summer restaurant, bar and terrace is inspired by a Cornish fishing village, where diners can enjoy a unique British seaside dining experience high above the streets of London.
Vintage Salt is set to be the al fresco dining destination of the summer and the ideal venue to escape the hustle and bustle of Oxford Street. The Drift Bar, located on the terrace will have a separate entrance, accessed via the Boardwalk which will be lined with nautical ropes guiding the way to the outdoor terrace.  A wooden beach hut will serve an extensive list of chilled reds, rose, white wine and champagne and the dedicated G&Tea bar will offer Gin cocktails. Guests can escape the sun in one of the two beach huts or enjoy a tipple from the special sundowners menu on the terrace deckchairs while watching the sun go down.
Starters from the Beech Oven menu include; Selection of oysters, Earl Grey smoked salmon, London particular fritters with Colman’s dressing and Spiced tuna tartare served with avocado and pickled cucumber. Diners can then choose from an array of fish dishes including; Lobster buttie with truffled fries, Camden Hells fish and chips and Halibut fish finger sandwich.
For those seeking a lighter offering, salads include; Salt baked beets with whipped goats cheese and sweet hazelnuts and Chopped salad with house smoked chicken and Shropshire blue cheese.  To finish, the pudding menu features some quirky twists on classic dishes including; Chocolate burger, Caramel brownie sundae dip and Vintage Salt cigar.
Vintage Salt will be open for late breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner seven days a week. The all-day Beech Oven menu will offer the highest quality seasonal produce and incorporate ingredients and flavours that bring the quintessentially British seaside to London.  The daily weather report and shipping forecast for seven days will also be noted on the menu.
Accessed via a dedicated express lift, customers will be able to enjoy the sunshine during the day in the heart of central London. Sibley Grove Interiors will take inspiration for the design from traditional Cornish fishing villages with blue and white accents, drift wood, deckchairs, coloured beach huts, cut summer flowers and contemporary art. With some of the best views over London’s iconic skyline, diners need not the fear the infamous British weather as a retractable roof will protect against any sudden downpours."

Expect expertly brewed coffees, alongside fellow local social enterprise the Dusty Knuckle Bakery who will be providing delicious baked treats.

Placing a huge emphasis on the quality and locality of all her ingredients, Marie only uses organic eggs, free-range meat and sustainable fish in her dishes. Sourcing the ingredients in Dalston makes for experimental cooking in an evolving seasonal menu, always served with a smile.
TOM’S FEAST

Centred around the DRP’s very own ethical charcoal barbecue, dishes will range from fresh oysters and prosecco, to Tom’s own-recipe incredible burgers – ranging from Chorizo & Merguez kofta burgers to an evolving list of fresh fish patties, all served in brioche buns with all the trimmings. Plus lots of options for vegetarians, including Bermondsey Frier halloumi from London’s own Kappacasein Dairy. Alongside a mezze feast of koftas, salads and homemade sauces, the changing menu promises to keep you deliciously satisfied through the long summer nights.

'Model Market' Indoor & Outdoor Street Food Market 2015 in Lewisham

Update - it's back for 2017 - Full details here

Model Market, the enclosed street food market in Lewisham High Street, is back for 2015 opening Friday and Saturdays from Friday 17th April to Saturday 3rd October.  It's free from 5pm - 7pm, and £3 after 7pm.  There will be street food, bars and #vibes, and special enclosed, sit-dwon diners from some of the traders, including The Beefsteaks, Mama's Jerk, Mother Flipper, Rola Wala, SE Brownie Bar, Smokestak and Yum Bun, plus other traders indluding Bill or Beak, Hanoi Kitchen and Spit & Roast.
Hats off to Street Feast for bringing this back, and for such a long stint - it's a great night out.

"Last year the team behind Street Feast transformed an abandoned 1950s market in Lewisham into south east London’s summer weekend capital of vibes. Model Market is now BACK with a stellar line-up of superb street food, brilliant bars, a purely vinyl soundtrack and wonderful crowd. Plus, new this year: a suntrap, rooftop bar and terrace (aka the ‘Lewisham High Line’).
Model Market opens on 17/18 April and runs every Friday and Saturday from 5pm to 1am until 02/03 October. The 25-weekend run will see a rotating line-up of our favourite traders including Street Feast veterans Rola Wala, Yum Bun, Mama’s Jerk, Smokestak, Mother Flipper and Spit & Roast as well as newcomers Bill or Beak and The Beefsteaks. If you’ve got room for pudding, you can pick up something sweet from Scoopsy Daisy and locals SE Brownie Bar.
There are five brilliant bars at Model Market this year: Drink BIG at the Rotary Bar with festival-sized cocktails, head to the teeny-tiny-tiki bar Rum Shack for a fantastic menu of classic rum cocktails or shimmy over to Slushy Bar for icy-cold, grown-up slushies. Step upstairs to the brand new rooftop beer and tequila bar, aka the Lewisham High Line or make a move to the main yard, where record-shop-cum-wine-bar Winyl brings fine booze and grooves to take you through to the end of the night.."

When - Every Friday & Saturdays from 17th April to 3rd October 2015
5pm til late - £3 entry after 7pm

Where - #ModelMarket, 196 Lewisham High Street, SE13 6LS
