Erpingham House's Veganuary Pop-up at Cloud Twelve in Notting Hill

Erpingham House is a plant-based restaurant, established in Norwich in 2018, and now popping up in London for January 2022 at Cloud Twelve club in W11.  It will be open on Tuesdays to Sundays from 11th - 31st January, serving 'innovative, delicious & sustainable food that delights without compromise on flavour or impact'.  A very tasty way to do go vegan this month!

"Discover us at Cloud Twelve, a one-of-a-kind wellness and lifestyle club in the heart of Notting Hill, to experience our first ever pop-up London Restaurant.

We believe in evolution through revolution, we’re for everyone and the world. Our mission is to create innovative, delicious & sustainable food that delights without compromise on flavour or impact. Our food is for everyone, paying special care & attention to seasonal, healthier food that’s both indulgent & exciting. As pioneers in the plant-based sector, we’re committed to pushing the boundaries & surprising people along the way. We love what we do, and we hope you do too!

Erpingham House was founded by Loui Blake in 2018, joined shortly after by professional footballer Russell Martin & supported by a wider team of friends, family & believers in the power of plant-based food. Beginning with what they later realised was the U.K’s largest vegan restaurant, the concept began with a cafe, restaurant & bar across 3 floors and later developed into delivery, education & community events, all curated to help more people eat plants. Since inception, Erpingham House has evolved to meet the changing needs of it’s audience, came through a pandemic & helped to evolve plant-based food in cities across the U.K."

Enak's Indonesian Pop-up at Boxpark Croydon for January 2022

Enak has taken over the pop-up kitchen unit at Boxpark in Croydon, CR0, serving delicious Indonesian curries and more every day for January 2022.

My picture shows the jackfruit curry, with two two cabbage, corn and carrot fritters.  It was my second trip to Enak in a couple of months (last time was at a brewery in the Bermondsey Beer Mile), and I had to go back to try the jackfruit; last time I had the aubergine.

Joe from Enak serves a completely #vegan menu - and as a meat eater I can testify that you certainly don't miss the meat - amazing taste and texture, and very filling.

When - Daily for January 2022

Serving (approximately) from noon til 9pm)

Alter's Six Month Residency at Leman Locke in Aldgate

Alter, chef Andy Hogben's take on vegan, Asian cooking, is starting a new residency at SHAMAN, the cafe inside the Leman Locke Hotel, just round the corner from Aldgate East tube station, starting on Friday 23rd October.  I've had - and loved - Andy's food at two previous pop-ups, and I can't wait to see what he will do at this new residency.  Get booking!

"alter was founded by Andy Hogben, (ex Dabbous, Som Saa & Andrew Wong) in response to the paradox of suddenly becoming vegan, but being completely disillusioned by vegan food, and its wider culture in the UK.⁣
⁣Having worked in some of London’s most exciting restaurants and with a head full of Anthony Bourdain travel shows, Andy realised there could be so much more to vegan food than simply replicating a British meat & dairy led diet and set about creating dishes that married up to veganism’s own worldwide sense of perspective.⁣
Andy says:  'Delighted to announce the next chapter of our journey begins this month with a 6 month residency at Leman Locke in Aldgate East.
This is the big one. The first, full fledged version of the concept. Full menu. House Cocktails. Craft Beer. Low intervention wine. We'd love to see you there!'"

When - Starts Friday 23rd 2020
Then Weds-Sun evenings

Linda's Journey's January Residency at Great Guns Social near Borough

Linda's Journey, the Goan Pop-up, will be serving at Great Guns Social near Borough for the whole of January 2020, serving Tuesday to Saturday evenings.  Expect lots of tasty curries, grilled and stuffed seafood, and spicier pork chorico, from this excellent chef, plus lots of vegetarian options too.  Linda is back at Great Guns Social by popular demand after a very successful residency there at the start of 2019.

"We're delighted to welcome Linda back for January with a warming and healthy menu. from Chef - "My journey started 15yrs ago working in Goa, learning my local cuisine in a 5 starred hotel, and working in a few other highly rated hotels. A move to London brought the opportunity for me to work at starred west end hotels for the past five years. My First Chef residency was at the Old Nun head Pub then at the Hill Station Café in New Cross Gate. I now want to take you on my culinary journey at the Great Guns Social cooking my native Goan Cuisine using fresh local produce" Goan cuisine - with the many colonial conquests the produce, ingredients, and cooking methods evolved, the early Mughals influenced and adapted their cuisine with rich coconut based curries. The Portuguese arrival in the early 16 century and the spice route majorly influenced the culture lifestyle and thus formed the new spice-vinegar based curries, grilled and stuffed seafood, and spicier pork chorico. The vegetarian cuisine is untouched and simply divine with way less heat."

Sainsbury's Meat-Free Pop-up 'Butcher's Shop' in Bethnal Green Road

Sainsbury's is opening a 3 day pop-up meat-free 'Butcher's Shop' for World Meat Free Week from Fri 21st - Sun 23rd June at 146 Bethnal Green Road (the Brick Lane end).  There will be lots of Sainsbury's own meat-free products to buy - many of which you'll be able to taste for free - plus experts on hand to share recipes and tips.

"Sainsbury’s has announced it is opening the UK’s first ever Meat-Free Butchers… just in time for World Meat Free Week.
At first glance, the three day pop-up shop will look no different than a traditional meat butchers. But the sausages hanging in the window will in fact be the entirely vegan ‘Shroomdog’ sausages, and the mince will be made from pea protein.
The in-store butcher will be specially trained for plant-based cooking, sharing recipe advice and tips to help customers get invovled in World Meat Free Week, which encourages people to try more plant-based foods.
Boasting over a dozen high quality fresh foods, customers of the East-End ‘Butchers’ will get to choose a cut of the best boneless bites, before the food is weighed and wrapped as in a traditional store.
From the famous Sweet & Smoky BBQ Pulled Jackfruit and Cumberland Shroomdogs, to the brand new Veggie Ribz and Moroccon Vegbabs, customers can get their hands on these moreish meat alternatives, all for a discounted price.
Hungry visitors will not only be able to buy the plant-based, raw ingredients for their dinner but will also have the chance to taste many of the delicious products entirely for free.
This comes as Sainsbury’s has seen a 24% increase in customers searching for vegan products online, and a 65% increase in sales of plant-based products year-on-year - with sales having doubled in the last year compare to the previous year. However, many are still daunted by the prospect of cooking with plant-based foods.
We have carefully selected the products on offer from the growing range of over 100 plant-based products now available at Sainsbury’s, so customers are in for a real meat-free treat when visiting the butchers!”

When - Fri 21st - Sun 23rd June 2019

Palm Greens' Salads & More at NT's Bar in Hackney

Palm Greens has started a new plant-based residency at the NT's Bar in Netil House, serving delicious salads and more daily until 4pm.  I went in to see them yesterday, and can confirm that the salads taste every bit as delicious as they look - I had the Mexican-inspired Tostada salad, with quinoa, black beans, and lots more.  They also have a lovely roof terrace - perfect for summer lunches and brunches!

"Kali has worked as a freelance chef for more than ten years, travelling the world for work and pleasure. She’s always been a lover of food and conscious of the treatment of animals and well being of the earth. Fascinated by the way food works with your body Kali trained at the Natural Gourmet Institute in New York, a school specialising in vegetarian health supportive cooking, this is where her style of cooking began to develop. Building relationships with local growers such as Growing Communities has encouraged Kali’s enthusiasm and belief in the need to be more in touch with where our food comes from and the impact the food system has on our environment and local community.
After working in the music industry for the last 20 years Memby has a passion for making people happy and bringing them together through food and music. Working as a host at his favourite restaurant for years, his love for food and hospitality grew and it encouraged his desire and drive to work for something he believes in."

Slaw's Vegan Pop-up Restaurant on Upper Street, N1

Slaw has opened a pop-up - with a view to becoming permanent - at 149 Upper Street, Islington, close to the Ottolenghi restaurant, and pretty much opposite the fire station.  They are open Tuesdays to Sundays for lunch and dinner.  I went in to see them today and I was really impressed by the team and the space.  I tried a couple of things, but I will be going back to eat properly in the next couple of weeks.  It looks great!

"Vegan salad restaurant Slaw will launch a residency on Upper Street in Islington from 1 February. It takes over Scandinavian restaurant group Rök’s former site, following its closure two weeks ago.
The self-described “plant based grab-and-go concept” will take over 149 Upper Street “for at least five months,” slinging highly photogenic salad assemblies that lean on grains, pulses, and legumes as much as vegetables — no meat substitutes, but no lack of consideration for protein, either. Opening little over 100 feet from Ottolenghi’s Islington site — also slinging highly photogenic salad assemblies that lean on grains, pulses, and legumes as much as vegetables — it’s taking on a master at his own game."
