Table at 464 in Kingsland Road, E8 - New venue looking for Pop-ups

I don't often write about venues, but I wanted to give Ernesto's new bar a plug.  He is trying to host pop-ups and guest chefs as part of his bar and restaurant's business.

I first met Ernesto a couple of years ago, when he was running a pop-up called Embers, a fire-cooking pop-up at the Renegade Urban Winery in Lockwood Way, E17.  Then it went quite quiet, until I got a message a couple of months ago that he had opened a new wine bar and restaurant at 464 Kingsland Road, E8, called Table at 464.

Ernesto has spent the past 9 months or so completely renovating the site, from the floor to the walls and ceiling, and putting in a new kitchen and bar.  It's clearly been a labour of love, and it now looks great - to the point that it looks like it's always been there.  It serves independent natural wines - I tried two chilled reds when I was there - and is a very friendly and laid back place.

As well as his own food offering, Ernesto is looking for other chefs to bring their cooking to the kitchen through pop-ups and residencies.  Contact him via Instagram DMs - here.

When - Open Weds-Sat evenings from 5pm

Where - 464 Kingsland Road, E8 4AE

Swedish Ski Lodge Pop-up Venue at The Well in Clerkenwell

This sounds great - but it's open for group bookings only, unfortunately.  If you need an unusual venue for a Christmas party look no further, though...

"Popping up again this December, downstairs at Clerkenwell’s favourite gastropub is The Well’s Christmas Swedish Ski Lodge.
For the ultimate après-ski experience, go underground and discover a Nordic wonderland of fake furs, glittery reindeers and party poppers that ping from the fir Christmas trees. No salopettes or thermals required in this chalet, as there will be Aquavit, a local schnapps, and ice-cold vodka a plenty to keep you warm along with classic Swedish sounds of Ace of Base, Roxette and Abba to get the party started.  Eat Scandinavian too and tuck into a ‘Jubord’, a traditional Christmas smorgasbord, of smoked reindeer and baby pickles; elk fillet tartare on rye; Swedish meatball brochettes  with tomato fondue; soused herrings, mustard and dill; citrus gravid lax with pickled cucumber and rye bread; crayfish and dill polar bread cones; soft boiled quail eggs with herring roe; and onion, herb and potato cream tarts with keta caviar.
The Well Swedish Ski Lodge can host parties of up to 70 people. Better yet, there is no hire charge. Private hire only. Minimum spends will apply. Canapés cost from £17 per person for six."

When - 1st - 24th December

Where - The Well, 180 St John Street, Clerkenwell, London, EC1V 4JY

The New Crystal Courtyard Pop-up venue at Dartmouth House

It seems that there will be a few people offering pop-up venues in the run up to Christmas.  This one isn't one you can go to, unless you book the courtyard for an event, but I thought it useful to log it, as I'm also trying to provide resources to pop-up creators.

"The exclusive pop up ‘Crystal Courtyard’ will to cosset the venue’s inner courtyard and maximise the space on offer during the winter months. Setting a sophisticated tone for the festive season with its beautiful decorations, oversized lanterns and crystal pea-lights dancing and reflecting in the courtyard’s fountain, the installation will increase the venue’s capacity for Christmas parties and events to 400 delegates over both floors and, thanks to full indoor heating; it will enable guests to enjoy the courtyard throughout the autumn and winter.
Three metres tall, the structure extends the full length of the courtyard allowing visitors to look out onto the “French Rocco Style Mews House” and enjoy the architectural style of Dartmouth House whilst being completely sheltered from the elements.
Richard Fisher, General Manager of Dartmouth House, said: “Our courtyard is one of the rarest features available in a London venue and is especially popular for receptions during the summer months. We are delighted that its use will now transcend through to winter and the festive party season. Our Christmas packages are following a ‘crystal’ theme, emulating the courtyard’s design to create a dazzling night for all.”"

When - 2rd September - 22nd December
