Bare Bone BBQ at the Renegade Urban Winery in Lockwood Way, E17

Bare Bone BBQ, run by chef Jack May, is currently serving smoked and BBQ-ed meats and produce at The Renegade Urban Winery in Lockwood Way, E17, serving a general BBQ menu on Saturdays, the most amazing Sunday Roasts on the Sunday.

I visited a couple of weeks ago, and was blown away by the quality; look at the thickness of that Brisket!   Jack is a great chef, who really loves his craft.  Bare Bone BBQ is a passion project, set up just before lockdown, but has still managed to trade at a number of sites and festivals, including Meatopia.  Jack himself came up through hard work and dedication, including time working as a butcher at Jamie Oliver's Barbecoa.

Renegade Urban Winery is a great home for Jack and his cooking.  It's like a craft beer taproom, but for wine, with a big industrial space, in a trading estate.  They sell a number of their own wines, by the glass or the bottle, and it's a brilliant place to spend some time.

One tip though - take your own cutlery!  Because Bare Bone BBQ is basically a street food operation, the cutlery they provide is wooden and compostable.  I took my own, and the meat tasted even better as a result.

When - Saturdays and Sundays

Where - Renegade Urban Winery, 7 Lockwood Way, E17 5RB

Tongue 'n' Cheek's Residency at The Joker of Penton Street in Angel

Great news!  Burger masters Tongue and Cheek start a residency at the pub The Joker of Penton Street on 1st March, serving their amazing burgers every day, plus a special Italian Sunday Roast, which they premièred at Pizza Pilgrims late last year.  If you've ever been lucky enough to have one of their burgers - Heartbreaker pictured below - you'll know that this is very good news indeed!

"If you’ve been missing Tongue ‘n Cheek on the street for the past few weeks, we have a really good excuse. We’ve been working hard to get a special project spot on, and now we’re very excited to announce our residency at the newly-opened Joker of Penton St.
On opening night, we will present the new T&C Spring/Summer Collection 2014, including: a new member of the Heartbreaker burger family,  the Cheesy Deluxe, featuring our homemade British melting cheese; a Club Sandwich you can be proud of; our take on fried chicken – marinated in fermented rice; and a “Healthy” Salad – more beef, less leaves.
On Sundays, we’re bringing back Italian Sunday Roast, first premiered at Pizza Pilgrims in Soho last November.
On the drinks side, we’re very excited to be working with Dan and Seanan from The Joker, who’ll be mixing cocktails using homemade infusions and pulling pints of locally-brewed craft beer from The Laine Brewery in Hackney. These guys know good ingredients make a good night out, whether it’s the tea in their Earl Grey Gin, or the vintage vinyl spinning on the bar.
We love this space. The open plan kitchen lets us replicate and extend the T&C street food experience, keeping us close to our punters, while a private function room has us planning various themed nights. Already on the drawing board is an 80s night, taking an irreverent look at the dishes on our home and restaurant tables from that decade. And we’ve got a few more aces up our sleeve…"

When - Launch night is Saturday 1st March, then will continue 7 days a week, midday - 10pm
(Ended 29th June 2014)

Where - The Joker of Penton Street, 58 Penton Street, Angel, N1 9PZ

A Grape Night In's Winter Sunday Roast Pop-up near London Fields

A Grape Night In have announced their next venture - an indulgent Sunday Roast lunch Pop-up near London Fields, with bubbles, paired wines, and even a quiz in the evening.  Most of their Wine Wednesdays sold out, and I've not doubt that this will be just as popular.

"As the summer months fade away, a hearty roast can be a saviour from the chilly weather. Pair this with many warming glasses of wine selected by the experts at pop-up wine company A Grape Night In, and you'll soon be forgetting the drizzle outside...
A Grape Night In are proud to announce a new series 'Toast & Roast', popping-up every Sunday from October through to December at the quirky, cool and homely Studio GI. The wine will take centre stage as we toast to Sundays and roast dinners - relax with a glass of bubbles when you arrive, before settling in to enjoy a selection of wines perfect to go with your roast dinner.
Chef Ricardo Prestes will be cooking up a storm in the kitchen to bring you delicious roasts every week, but we'll be putting a spin on tradition by bringing out the roast in 3 courses; 'The Veg' the starters, 'The Meat' for mains and 'The Sauce' becomes dessert. Roasts will alternate every week (see menus below for more details) and vegetarian options will be available too.
So why not bring a group of friends or bring the family along for either a lazy lunch from 1:30-5pm (we can take groups of up to 12 people), and all topped off  with a quiz from 6pm. Sunday's won't be the same again!
Sample menu:
The Veg: Spicy parsnip soup with crispy onion
The Meat: Roast rump with fondant Hasselback potatoes & spinach cream
The Sauce: Chocolate tart with crystallized horseradish"

When - Sundays from 6th October, 1.30pm - 5pm, with a quiz at 6pm

Where - A location near London Fields, to be revealed on booking

Tickets - Tickets cost £35 from Edible Experiences here and includes bubbles on arrival and three courses with paired wines.

The Dessert Deli 'Hearty' Sunday Roast & 'Scrumptious' Dessert in Battersea

Laura Amos from the Dessert Deli is hosting a special Mother's Day Sunday Roast, with all the trimmings and - as you'd expect - a fabulous dessert.  It's only £20, it's BYOB, and there are only 12 tickets left (at time of writing) so book as soon as you can!

"Those of you who know me, know I have a 'Savoury Tooth' although I make desserts for a living, running The Dessert Deli. But love nothing more than a 'hearty' roast on a Sunday. Think this comes from being a Dorset girl.
Good joint of meat, loads of crispy on the outside & soft on the inside potatoes, tasty well seasoned veg, big Yorshire puds and lashings of gravy!!
On the other hand, I would love to do a 'Dessert Pop Up' with some of your favourites from my Cookbook, however don't want you to 'OD' on sugar alone so I have combined the two, to host...........
The Dessert Deli 'Hearty' Sunday Roast & 'Scrumptious' Dessert - 'Kitchen Pop Up'
Menu will be Roast Beef with the works, followed by a dessert from The Dessert Deli Cookbook.
Chilled, fun, Sunday afternoon amongst friends eating good food at The Dessert Deli kitchen. By the time you leave you will be 'fit to burst' :)
BYO Alcohol, however soft refreshments will be provided."

When - Sunday 10th March, 1.30pm

Where - The Dessert Deli Kitchen, Unit 16 Battersea Business Centre, 109 Lavender hill, SW11 5QL

Tickets - £20 + fees from here
