The 2014 London Coffee Festival at The Old Truman Brewery in Shoreditch

The London Coffee Festival takes place at the Old Truman's Brewery from Thursday 3rd - Sunday 6th April.  Lots to see and do, including The Kahlúa Coffee House, a special coffee bar with Kahlúa, Nude Espresso and The Liquorists, where you can drink coffee cocktails.  Yum!

"The London Coffee Festival celebrates London’s bustling and vibrant coffee scene.   With over 20,000 visitors expected, The London Coffee Festival promises to be an unmissable event for discerning coffee lovers and those working in the coffee scene. 
The festival will feature over 250 artisan coffee and gourmet food stalls, tastings and demonstrations from world-class baristas, interactive workshops, street food, coffee-based cocktails, live music, DJs, art exhibitions and much more.
Visitors will also gain access to Milk & Sugar, The London Coffee Festival new feature showcasing some of London’s most inspirational brands spanning from fashion to design and food.

The 'All You Read is Love' Pop-up Book Store and Cafe in Walthamstow

Love this!  An Indie bookshop and Scandinavian-inspired cafe is popping up for three weeks in Walthamstow from tomorrow (Weds 22nd January).  It'll sell books, have tea, coffee, cakes and booze, and also serve as an even space hosting events including creative writing, a poetry reading, and even an accoustic gig by Steven James Adams of the Broken Family Band.  See all the events here

"All You Read is Love will be Walthamstow’s new and only independent, European-style book café. 
Equal parts café and bookshop, All You Read is Love will combine the love of homemade Scandinavian treats, good-conscience tea and coffee and finely crafted wine and beer, with the love of great literature. 
Run by Danish siblings Anders and Karen, the bookshop will specialise in contemporary and 19th and 20th century American, British, Russian and Scandinavian literary fiction, auto- and biographies, carefully selected non-fiction and illustrated children's literature. 
Hosting regular events, such as readings, live acoustic music, book quizzes, academic panel discussions and author signings, All You Read is Love aims to become a lively community institution where locals meet and share their love of literature."

Pin Up Pop Up Gallery & Cafe in Brixton

Pin Up Pop Up is a two day pop-up cafe in Atlantic Road, Brixton with cakes by Kath's Cakes, an art sale through Today's Specials, and craft workshops suitable for children.

"South west London based baker, Kath’s Cakes and guerilla pop up brand Today's Specials are opening a two day café and art/design shop this April. Located close to the popular in-door Brixton market, the space will sell a range of home-made sweet treats, hot and cold drinks to eat in or take away and will showcase the talents of young up and coming artists and designers.
Pin Up Pop Up aims to promote artists, designers and makers by providing a welcoming space to display and sell work, whilst offering visitors delicious cakes and drinks. Most items in the pop up will be for sale at affordable prices, from graphic design prints to greetings cards, jewellery, home-ware and furniture.
On Sunday 21st April, Pin Up Pop Up will host a fun 'Queen's Birthday' afternoon tea, with craft workshops throughout the day suitable for customers with young children.
Kath’s Cakes was founded by baking enthusiast Kath who started making cakes as a hobby but has now grown into a part-time business, supplying cakes to the likes Bertie & Boo café in Balham, partaking in markets, festivals and supplying clients for corporate events, weddings and other celebrations. As well as making time to bake, Kath also works as an administrator at an art college which has nurtured her passion for contemporary art and design. Kath’s Cakes specialises in cupcakes made with the finest natural ingredients, all baked fresh to order.
Today's Specials is a guerilla pop up brand selling and promoting the work of up-coming creatives through temporary  shops and market stalls. Their recent Christmas Fete at the Royal College of Art was featured in The Guardian and Time Out.
Exhibitors/ Sellers include – Matt Richards Illustrations, Ray Stanbrook, Kirstin Stride Jewellery, Wetpaint Illustrations, Jhinuk Sircar, Richard Brendon and Sam Weller plus many more."

The London Coffee Festival at the Old Truman Brewery

Coffee takes over The Old Truman Brewery on the last weekend of April (in fact Thursday - Sunday) with everything for the coffee fan including a Roastery, the True Artisan Cafe, competitions, and more.

The Dalston Department Store's March Pop-up

The Dalston Department Store is back, for 4 days in March, offering goods from local businesses to discerning customers, interested in design, accessories, clothing, and more.

"Thanks to a successful launch at the end of 2012, Dalston Department Store is ‘Springing Back’ again, from March 21st to 24th.
The Dalston Department Store is a new shopping experience for shoppers who want something different to the usual high street chain stores. It features local design and business talent as much as possible, so come along and see what is new.
Housed in a former tramshed it is accessed by a goods lift (with an elevator man ) , and includes a drinks bar, gourmet coffee and cakes during the day. Each event offers new items, but the quality of products on offer are distinctive , innovative and expertly made.
‘Departments’ in this event include mens and womenswear, kids clothing for the first time , accessories, jewellery, homeware, furniture, art , books and food. Look on our website or facebook page for details of who will be participating this time around."

The After Hours Dessert Two-Day Preview in Bloomsbury

We last saw the excellent Free Company at their residency at The Endurance in Soho; now they're back, in conjunction with Live and Let Dine for a dessert bar in Store Street.  The project will launch properly in 2013, but in the meantime they have a two day (evening) preview, offering dessert, petit fours and coffee for £10.

"Thursday 6 and Friday 7 December will see two-nights of After Hours, the new coffee & dessert project from food ideas company Live & Let Dine.
After Hours works with exciting, young pastry chefs and independent, artisanal coffee shops to serve modern, innovative desserts, with great coffee.  They will be appearing regularly from January 2013, and can be followed on Twitter @afterhoursldn, or online at www.afterhoursdessert.com
Free Company are in charge of food for both nights and will serve a short menu of desserts, including ‘Coffee: chocolate caramel tuile, coffee mousse, cardamom-milk cappuccino’, and ‘Banana and Pop Corn: brown butter puree, banana ice cream, lime, pop corn glass, frozen corn’.
Dessert, coffee & petit fours will cost £10, and a tasting menu of 3 desserts, coffee & petit fours will cost £20.  It will take place after hours at Store St Espresso, Bloomsbury, one of London’s leading independent coffee shops.  No reservations.
Live & Let Dine is a food ideas company, run by Pete Butler. They also run The Mince Pie Project, an annual charity auction of mince pies.
Free Company Food Creative are a London-based team of chefs, led by David Boycott, who work together to deliver amazing and delicious food experiences.  They recently completed a 4-week residency at The Endurance in Soho, and are working on new projects for 2013."

Art+Cake Valentine's Fair in Clapham

Art+Cake is a monthly design bazaar in Clapham high Street, held in the new glass-fronted foyer of the Methodist Church.  They have a special Valentine's event this weekend.

"This affordable high quality art and design craft event offers locals new art, fashion, jewellery, vintage, collectibles, home wares, contemporary design, vintage books along with tea, coffee and… cakes galore.
Exhibitors include breathtaking contemporary artwork from Dawn Thompson and Art Satiety, fashion clothing with Jason Ellis' stylish designs, contemporary cutting edge jewellery by Glitterglass Studios along with handmade gifts and home wares from Mr & Mrs House.

Alice's Tea Garden Pop-up Retox Tea Party in SW18

This sounds like a very fun afternoon!  Regular popper-uppers Alice's Tea Garden are holding a Sunday afternoon tea party in a house in SW18.  Have a look at the planned menu above, but expect lots of tasty treats!

Coffee Saturday Pop-up Cookie Bake-off & Pizza Party near Chancery Lane - NOW FINISHED

This is another of Daniel Young's Coffee Saturday events - but with a twist.  The morning is for coffee and biscuits, but if you stay around for the evening you also get a Pizza aperitivo party.  I've been to two Coffee Saturday events before, and they've been great fun.

"Join me, Jeremy Challender of Prufrock, Fabio Ferreira of Notes Music Coffee and Flat Cap Coffee and special guest Katie Parla, creator of the free new Rome dining app, as CoffeeSaturday celebrates the pleasures of Rome.
The day will be divided into two sessions: a cappuccino-and-cookie tasting running from 11:30am-5pm and a Roman pizza aperitivo party running from 5pm-9:30pm. You can book for either but we all hope you will take advantage of the discount and be with us for part of both.
For the cappuccino tasting Fabio Ferreira will wheel Notes Music Coffee's Flat Cap coffee cart from a church yard on Fleet Street into Prufrock for a one-day-only docking of two great London coffee shops. Baristas from each will prepare for you their versions of the traditional cappuccino (#TradCapp) as part of their respective efforts to restore interest in an Italian classic ignored of late by coffee geeks. You'll enjoy your two cappuccinos with homemade Roman-style cookies made for the day's bake-off.
With admission to the pizza aperitivo you will get three slices (and three varieties) of authentic pizza al taglio - the glorious "cut" pizza of Rome - baked by Herbie Leonelli, the pizzaiolo at London's Datte Foco. To go with Herbie's pizza we'll serve Negronis, Italian wine and, for the caffeine deprived, more coffee."

Galleria Illy Pop-up Cafe, Gallery & Events in Farringdon

Italian roaster Illy is opening a new pop-up space in London, combining a coffee shop, a gallery and an event space, following on from similar pop-ups in Milan, New York, Trieste, Berlin and Istanbul.  Entrance is free (& you get one free Illy coffee), but events need to be booked in advance

"Michelangelo Pistoletto has been invited, along with Cittadellarte, his Foundation, to provide artistic direction at this autumn’s Galleria illy with a range of works and projects linking London to the Mediterranean and southern more to Africa. Pistoletto's Mediterranean Mirror Table Love Difference (first revealed at the 2003 Venice Biennale) will act as a meeting place, a symbolic and yet concrete representation of different cultures united by a common sea, an in between continent where to aknowledge oneself and each other in an all-welcoming mirror.
The temporary exhibition space will play host to a programme of art, literature, science, design and food & wine events presented by internationally renowned personalities. Participants already committed include Marina Abramovic, Hans Ulrich Obrist and Carlito Carvalhosa.
Additionally, the artist Francesco Clemente will be revealing his take on the espresso cup as part of the illy Art Collection.  His contribution will be added to a new installation that showcases illy coffee cups interpreted by some of the greatest artists and most influential contributors to film and music of our generation.
illy baristas from the Università del Caffè will provide free courses to help people master the art of coffee preparation and serve world class drinks.  And the premium Italian coffee maker will be giving all visitors the opportunity to enjoy a delicious coffee from a purpose-built London Galleria bar, to ensure the coffee-themed aesthetic prevails throughout."

Coffee Saturday Pop-up Biscotti Bake-Off in Tottenham Court Road - NOW FINISHED

Daniel Young, of Young and Foodish organises lots of pop-up events - for example his legendary Burger Mondays (one of the inspirations for this blog).  I don't list the Burger Mondays on here, because they're always sold out within hours or minutes, but this new event will probably take longer to sell out.  I went to one of these bake-offs earlier in the year and it was excellent - you get great coffee & great biscotti, and you meet really friendly group of people.

"Join me, Tapped and Packed managing director Richard Lilley and fellow friends of young&foodish for great coffee and an Italian biscotti bake-off at the enchanting new Tapped and Packed coffee shop on Tottenham Court Road, near the Warren Street tube.
This, the second CoffeeSaturday pop-up, meets at No.114, as the coffee shop is identified, on the 3rd of September, anytime between 10:30am and 2:30pm.
The £5 ticket price includes an expertly prepared coffee of your choice, either a single-origin coffee brewed with a Hario V60 dripper or a Has Bean custom espresso (espresso,flat white or latte), and a tasting of Italian biscotti baked by me and a few other worthy competitors."
