The Oasis pop-up shop in Carnaby Street, Soho

An Oasis pop-up shop has opened at 5-7 Carnaby Street, London, open daily til Sunday 3rd August and selling a good range of merch from T-shirts and other clothing - including the collab with adidas - plus records, posters, and more.

It's a big shop, next door to the North Face shop, and opposite the Puma shop, and quite close to where Liam Gallagher's Pretty Green shop used to be a few years ago.

There is even a big picture of the What's The Story? album cover for fans to pose in front of.

Not surprisingly it is very popular and can get very busy.  I'd recommend booking a slot (seriously - but it is free) to ensure that you can get in.

Asked the person at the till, out of curiosity, how much she reckons they take in a day.

She knew the answer. On Friday (first Wembley gig), they took over £220,000. That's just in one day!"

Lucy Sparrow's 'Felt R Us' Christmas Pop-up Shop at the Brunswick Centre

Lucy Sparrow, the artist who makes felt versions of everyday items like packets of crisps, jars of Marmite, bottles of spirits and fruit and vegetables, has opened a pop-up shop at Unit 22, The Brunswick Centre, near Russell Square tube, to sell her items - including little felt Christmas tree decorations - in the run up to Christmas 2022.

I love Lucy's art, and have been buying bits ever since her 'Corner Store' installation (a real corner store, kitted out entirely with felted stock) in 2014, and to to have a Christmas pop-up is an absolutely wonderful thing.  It is open daily, and I strongly encourage you to visit!

Lucy Sparrow has also done a festive take over of MEATliquor Bloomsbury.  Under the canopy of the towering tree, diners will dig into festive specials including the Santa's Little Gobbler burger, featuring fried turkey, red-eye mayonnaise, sprout slaw & cranberry hot sauce, along with sides of pigs in blankets with mustard BBQ sauce and Xmac 'n' cheesier with cranberry hot sauce.  A perfect spot to eat after you have been shopping!

Another Pantry's Winter Pop-up Shop near Covent Garden

Another Pantry is a recipe site, set up by chef and photographer Safia Shakarchi in 2020.  They have now opened a pop-up shop at 38 Earlham Street, Seven Dials (practically next to the theatre showing Matilda, and opposite KERB's Seven Dials Market).  It's a small space, and they have filled it with hard to find goodies from modern chefs, restaurants and makers, including Bao, St John, Sambal Shiok and Dishoom.  It is open daily til 1st December; the perfect place to buy some presents for food-obsessed friends!

Raye's Pop-up Grocery Store in Covent Garden - Supporting New Brands

Raye is a pop-up store for packaged goods - foods, drinks, wellness - that has just opened its 3rd pop-up in London (following earlier ones in Shoreditch and on the King's Road) at 18 Floral Street, Covent Garden.  The store features over 100 new brands like Bold Bean Co, Bantu Chocolate, and Pea Pops, with regular events where you can sample things (see schedule here).  I have visited both previous ones, and look forward to visiting this one.  It's a great place to see new brands, see lots of cool design and packaging, and buy some treats to take home.  The store is open daily til 31st July.

Loctite's 2nd Chance Pop-up Shop in Soho with Jay Blades MBE

On Saturday 14th May 2022 Loctite will open a one day pop-up, the 2nd Chance Store, at 68 Old Compton St, Soho, giving people the chance to have items repaired, and learn now to do repairs themselves.  Jay Blades MBE, from The Repair Shop, is going to be at sessions at 2pm, 3pm and 4pm; book free tickets to attend here.

Maeving's Pop-up Electric Motorcycle Store in London Bridge Station

Maeving, the maker of British built electric motorcycles, has opened a pop-up shop in Unit SU22 of the Western Arcade Shopping Avenue, under London Bridge Station (near to the WHSmiths book shop etc), to showcase their new RM1 bike, which looks very striking, and has an easily removable battery for in-home charging.  It is only open until the end of February - hurry along to take a look.

The Toy Project's Pop-up Toy Shop in Selfridges Selling Donated Toys

 

The Toy Project is a charity that recycles unwanted toys and gives them to children that need them.  It was set up in 2013, with a permanent shop based in Archway, and has just opened a Christmas pop-up shop on the 4th floor at Selfridges in Oxford Street, selling unwanted toys to raise money for their charitable work.

I visited at the weekend and loved it!  It's a small space, but filled with old action figures, toy cars, LEGO and more; perfect for nostalgic presents for friends or colleagues.  There are things to buy for just £2, and also for much more (kept securely in draws under the counter).  I loved it, and will be going back!

It is open in Selfridges until 23rd December - please support this brilliant cause!

To celebrate their new packaging - which is all either recyclable, compostable, or biodegradable, Montezuma is opening a Waste Not, Want Not Recyclable Shop at 67 Neal Street for two days, on 13th & 14th March 2020.  When you visit the shop you will be able to swap your unwanted packaging for tailor-made treats, designed to imitate some of the biggest waste culprits in the UK food industry – think grab-and-go salad bowls, sandwich wrappers and those iconic black sushi trays.  There will also be a big art work in the window, designed to look like an overflowing waste bin, but actually deliciously edible.  Sounds amazing!

The Ecstatic Peace Library Pop-up Record Store & Gallery in Stoke Newington

On Wednesday 5th February the Ecstatic Peace Library, a pop-up record store, book store and gallery space will open at 96 Stoke Newington Church Street (nearly opposite The Good Egg), for six weeks.  It's a collaboration between musician Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth), artist Edwin Pouncey (aka Savage Pencil), and Pete Flanagan (Zippo Records).  Go along for an eclectic selection of music and more; both Moore and Pouncey will be selling records from their personal collection.

The Garage Sale - with lots of Independent Designers - at Mother in Shoreditch

.The Garage Sale is back for Christmas 2019 with a 3 day pop-up downstairs at the 'Mother' ad agency in Redchurch Street, Shoreditch.  Go for lots of unique items from over 40 of the UK's best independent designers, with prices from £1 to £100.  There will also be a bar, with mulled wine at just £1.  Note that since this is a private space you need to register on Eventbrite before you go - link here.

Shelter's Christmas 2019 Pop-up Shop in Neal St, Covent Garden

The Housing & Homelessness charity Shelter has opened a Christmas pop-up shop, selling vintage clothing, cards, gifts, and their unique 'Emergency Chocolate' bars, to raise money for their causes.  It's open daily until 21st December - please go and spend money there!

"Housing and homelessness charity Shelter have launched a unique festive pop-up shop in Seven Dials, London, to target the housing crisis this Christmas.  
And for the first time ever in the UK, supporters will be able to donate to Shelter using a unique ”tap to donate” point with each £3 donation triggering more than 650 giant stars to twinkle.  
The exciting interactive Christmas light installation, located on Earlham Street, will run until early January.  
And the store, at 72 Neal Street in Covent Garden, will run for six weeks. It offers a carefully curated mix of high-end bargains from fashion, seasonal gifts and cards, to jewellery and collectables.

Tits London's Christmas Pop-up Shop with Women Designers

Tits London is opening a pop-up shop at 188 Shoreditch High Street from 16th - 30th November 2019, to showcase and sell work from their favourite women designers.  As with Tits' other events, 10% of the profits will go to CoppaFeel, so you will be helping a great cause as well as buying some excellent designs and gifts.

The Merchant's Tail - a Pop-up for Dog & Cat lovers from Fetch & Follow and Cheshire & Wain

The Merchant's Tail is a collaborative pop-ups shop from two online brands, Cheshire & Wain, who specialise in gifts for cats, and Fetch & Follow, who do the same for dogs.  It's now open Wednesdays to Sundays until 27th November at 270 Hackney Road, E2, and it's a treasure trove of items like collars, treats, toys, and even coats.  They will also be holding regular events through the run of the pop-up, including having a pet photographer in.  I visited yesterday, and ended up buying Christmas presents for Tiger, Lola and Pip.  A brilliant shop.

Sainsbury's Meat-Free Pop-up 'Butcher's Shop' in Bethnal Green Road

Sainsbury's is opening a 3 day pop-up meat-free 'Butcher's Shop' for World Meat Free Week from Fri 21st - Sun 23rd June at 146 Bethnal Green Road (the Brick Lane end).  There will be lots of Sainsbury's own meat-free products to buy - many of which you'll be able to taste for free - plus experts on hand to share recipes and tips.

"Sainsbury’s has announced it is opening the UK’s first ever Meat-Free Butchers… just in time for World Meat Free Week.
At first glance, the three day pop-up shop will look no different than a traditional meat butchers. But the sausages hanging in the window will in fact be the entirely vegan ‘Shroomdog’ sausages, and the mince will be made from pea protein.
The in-store butcher will be specially trained for plant-based cooking, sharing recipe advice and tips to help customers get invovled in World Meat Free Week, which encourages people to try more plant-based foods.
Boasting over a dozen high quality fresh foods, customers of the East-End ‘Butchers’ will get to choose a cut of the best boneless bites, before the food is weighed and wrapped as in a traditional store.

Festok, a Lebanese ice cream maker based in London, is popping up for the summer at Harvey Nichols in their fifth floor food department, from 15th June to 31st August.  Lebanese ice cream is known for its light elastic texture and Festok have created their own bespoke flavours such as Date, Turmeric, Carob and Meghli. Their organic ice cream is natural, rich in flavour, plant-based and, they say, quite addictive!  Looking forward to trying this!

Penguin Classics' Happy Reading Pop-up Book Shop in Shoreditch

Penguin Classics is opening a pop-up shop & event space called Happy Reading at 133 Bethnal Green Road, Shoreditch, from Monday 25th - Sunday 31st March 2019.   It will sell and display all 1,237 books in the Penguin Classics range, and also host lots of events in the store, including a book club, and a candle-making workshop for Mother's Day on Sunday 31st.

"On 25 March 2019, Penguin Classics is launching Happy Reading, its first ever pop-up bookshop in Shoreditch to celebrate reading for pleasure and the special books that impact our lives.
Showcasing the range and diversity of world literature, the space will display a single copy of each of the 1,257 books in the world-renowned Penguin Classics list. Happy Reading is both a shop and a cultural space for readers to explore, discuss and challenge the literary canon.
During the evenings, the space will host a range of events and workshops. Confirmed events include a Mother’s Day candle making workshop with Literati & Light, a panel discussion on happiness in partnership with Refinery29 and an event focussing on women in the canon with Penguin Live.

Bruno's Bakes & Coffee - A Pop-up French Bakery on Brick Lane

Bruno's Bakes & Coffee is a pop-up independent bakery & coffee shop at 202 Brick Lane (the Bethnal Green Road end, near to Bacon St).  It was created by award winning pastry chef Bruno Breillet, and has previously been open in Rochester, Kent, but has now moved to London with this pop-up, provisionally open until the end of May.  Expect lots of freshly baked French patisserie both sweet and savoury.  Sounds wonderful!

"Bruno's Bakes & Coffee is a small independent bakery/coffee shop specializing in classic French and modern American cakes, tarts and savoury items.
Bruno Breillet is the pastry chef and he makes everything on site.  You could come in on any given day and find a classic Breton Kouign Amann sitting next to a Peanut Butter and Chocolate Pie, or a Strawberry Tart next to a Caramel Popcorn Cheesecake.  We also have a small savory menu based around Croque Monsieurs, perhaps having three or four different kinds to choose from.   Basically, our menu changes constantly depending on Bruno’s mood and of course our customers’ desires.  Bruno has won a Master Chef Live/BBC Good Food Show Bursary Award and has received a total of 5 stars from the Guild of Fine Food’s Great Taste Awards.  He’s been featured in Delicious Magazine and has recipes in the DK book, Chocolate: Indulge Your Inner Chocoholic."

Singer Hollie Haines' Pop-up for her Album Launch in Old Street Station

Folk singer Hollie Haines is launching her new album The Letters To My Last Love as a pop-up at Old Street Underground - in the tunnels under the roundabout that lead to the tube station - for six days from Monday 4th - Saturday 9th February 2019.  Hollie will be there herself for the whole time, with musician and artist friends, so pop in to enjoy a chat or listen to some music. 

Musicians have used pop-ups before - for example Enter Shakiri opened a pop-up shop in Camden to promote an album three years ago - but this is far more extensive.  Well done Hollie!

"I'm so excited to announce that after the release of my 7-track concept album Letters To My Last Love I will be taking up a week long residence at one Old Street Underground's famous Pop-Up spaces to bring Letters to life in an immersive installation. Alongside some wonderful artists and musicians the Pop-Up will include live music, art and a chance to follow the journey of love, healing and discovery that the album carves out. The Black Mirror 'Bandersnatch' Pop-up at Old Street Roundabout

Netflix has created a pop-up to tie in with the release of the Black Mirrir 'choose your own adventure' episode Bandersnatch.  It's called Tucker's Newsagent & Games', it's in the store next to the old entrance to Magic Roundabout (which closed in 2018).  I visited on Saturday 5th January, and was able to take pics through the window of items including mocked up 80s-style VHS covers for Black Mirror episodes, including Nosedive, plus fake game posters and more.  The man selling juices and smoothies in the store next door thought that it might be open next week (from Mon 7th), but it's possible it will never actually open, and just serve as an elaborate billboard...  Great concept though! 

"A pop-up store inspired by the Black Mirror movie Bandersnatch has appeared at London’s Old Street tube station.
The shop, named Tucker’s Newsagent and Games was first spotted yesterday (January 2), before the shutters were lifted this morning to reveal the whole display.
An initial glimpse reveals that the 80s themed store is decked out with promotional materials for some of the Tuckersoft games that feature in the Netflix film – including Valdack’s Revenge, Nohzdyve and the titular Bandersnatch.
There’s also subtle references to other Black Mirror offerings too, including the acclaimed San Junipero and 2017’s USS Callister.
However, there’s the small matter of a ‘Be Right Back’ sign that hangs on the window – meaning that fans will have to admire the faithful recreation from the outside."
