Skylounge's Rooftop Valhalla Vodka Bar near Tower Hill

From 25th November Skylounge in EC3 will be hosting the Valhalla VodkacBar on its outdoor rooftop terrace, with outdoor heaters, sheepskin throws, mulled wine, and of course vodka to keep you warm.   Open from 4.30pm, West - Sunday

"Skylounge, the stunning rooftop bar atop the DoubleTree Hilton in Tower Hill, has announced the arrival of Valhalla Vodka Bar, a cosy, winter residency on the outdoor terrace, which overlooks Tower Bridge, The Shard and The Gherkin.
Launching on 25th November, the Valhalla Vodka Bar will offer city dwellers and pilgrimaging guests alike a relaxing atmosphere, vodka cocktails and wholesome, Scandi-style food. A winter overhaul has given the stunning terrace weatherproof roofing, heaters and sheepskin throws. Traditional Viking belongings, animal skins, and even views of the fjords will further amplify the theme, along with the name which directly translates in to 'heaven' in Viking tongue.  For those still feeling the chill, warming mugs of mulled wine will be just the ticket, or perhaps a glass of hot apple cider served in an urn. Elsewhere, bespoke winter cocktails (with authentic Viking names!) have been developed by Snow Queen Vodka, a premium organic vodka, which are sure to warm you as you guzzle. Choose between Glapsvidr (a fruity serve with Aperol, passion fruit puree and apple juice), Ginnarr (the zingy one, with orgeat, lime juice, passion fruit and pineapple juice), or Hrafnass (a floral creation with lavender syrup, blueberry syrup, lime, apple juice and soda).
Wholeheartedly embracing the Vikings’ way of doing things and the ‘hunter gatherer’ ethos, Valhalla Vodka Bar food offerings will be hearty, wholesome and meat-heavy. Customers can expect marinated meats, hunks of artisan bread and cheeses sourced from Scandinavia.
Open Wednesday to Sunday, 4:30pm until late, Valhalla Vodka Bar is the perfect spot for after-work drinks, a quiet one, or lazy weekends with friends.  It is also available for private events and Christmas parties with a difference (minimum spend required). Valhalla Vodka Bar will run through to February, alongside the Peroni Bar, which is situated on the front facing terrace."

The Jerk Chicken 'Jerk Off' on The Queen of Hoxton Rooftop

Photo from White Men Can't Jerk
So what would you call a Jerk Chicken contest..?  These guys have gone for 'Jerk Off' and it's taking place between noon and 7pm on the rooftop bar of The Queen f Hoxton on Sunday 3rd August.  A £10 ticket gets you a piece of jerk chicken from each of the four vendors - Boom Burger, Fish, Wings & Tings, Mama's Jerk Station, and White Men Can't Jerk' - plus sides, and two rum drinks from Wray & Nephew.  You;d be a jerk to miss it (sorry - it's catching...)

"The Queen of Hoxton is bringing this year’s top food trend to the east end after a flurry of Caribbean restaurant openings in London over the last few months. In the lead up to the 52nd Jamaican Independence Day, we invite four of London’s hottest (excuse the pun!) jerk vendors to battle it out in an epic, all-day chicken Jerk Off on our rooftop. Hosted by Normski, known for hosting the outlandish TV show, Dance Energy back in the 80’s he’ll be doing his thing live on Hoxton FM from Jerk Off. Those taking part include; Notting Hill's Boom Burger, Brixton Village’s Fish, Wings & Tings, Mama’s Jerk Station and White Men Can’t Jerk. Just one of them, chosen by our guests on the day, will be crowned the Jerk Off champion 2014!
Can you handle the heat? Prep your taste buds for jerk chicken of the highest order that will blow your brains out! Jamaican, Trinidadian and London flavours will all be represented, as each ‘jerker’ brings their unique seasoning, rubs, marinades and cooking styles to the rooftop to wow the crowds. Once the winner has been announced and you’ve had your fill of chicken, head to the ground floor to dance the night away with Hoxton FM DJs.
Competitors:
Boom Burger
Raised in Montego Bay, Josh de Lisser blends inspiration from his Auntie Sharon with the food trends of London. The outcome is loud, proud Jamaican flavours served up in his Portobello Road restaurant.
Fish, Wings & Tings
Located in Brixton Village, the restaurant’s aim is to introduce a dynamic, eclectic mix of Trinidadian fare, taking the regional and street food turning it into a trendy and delightful selection of nouvelle cooking.
Mama’s Jerk Station
Mama Charlotte grew the fresh ingredients on her farm in Jamaica to create her own jerk recipe which is now famed on the Mama’s Jerk Station stall found in food markets across London.
White Men Can’t Jerk
Other than scoring a great pun name, these three friends are all about mixing it up. They combine unlikely jerk dishes (think Jerk Halloumi) with cool surroundings and DJs."

When - Sunday 3rd August, 12 noon until 7m

Where - The Queen of Hoxton, 1-5 Curtain Road, EC2A 3JX

Tickets - £10 from Billetto here

Platterform's Sea Adventures Pop-up Rooftop Restaurant in London Fields

Platterform have taken over the roof space on Martello Street, London Fields, previously used by Coppa last summer, and have created a maritime-themed pop-up with a series of different chefs all cooking seafood.  Dave Yorkston starts on 13th Feb, followed by Ayam Legend (6th - 15th March), Vinn Goute (20th - 29th March), and finally The Foragers, (3rd - 19th April).

"Following the successful Skylodge in December, Platterform are back with an exciting new concept in the same space (on the roof of the Hothouse in London Fields). It is called 'Platterform's Sea Adventure Series' and it will run for 15 weeks with guest chefs taking up residency every 2-3 weeks. See line up attached together with menus for chapter 1 and 2.
The Maiden Voyage (as the name suggests) is our first adventure out at sea. Circumnavigating the North Sea we discover the stark similarities between the British, Dutch and Scandinavian palate when it comes to enjoying seafood. A playful approach is also taken to reconstruct some of these familiar North European seafood dishes, aiming to capture the imagination, surprise the taste buds and guarantee a funfilled maiden voyage.
Maid in the Mist (chapter 2) starts on 13th February and welcomes Dave Yorkston of Yorkston Smoke House on board. In the coming weeks Dave will be installing his very own custom made cold smoker on our rooftop in preparation for his 3 week residency focused on promoting his artisanal smoked fish delicacies. Dave's smoked fish is so good that he sells it to his very own fishmonger!
Each chef will deliver a 4 course seafood experience with an after dinner drink thrown in for good measure. The ticket price is £30.
In this way each chef collaboration will be unique, offering entirely different seafood experiences with a fun narrative and visual element to compliment.
As a mainstay for the 15 week run we are offering rum ration cocktails and craft beers with a nautical theme at our Shanty Shack main bar and special after dinner cocktails at our newly installed second bar- the Captain's Cabin. Enjoy drinks, sea shanty music and games with the captain after dinner!
Walk-ins are most certainly still welcome where drinks and bar snacks will be available all night."

When - Thursdays - Sundays until 19th April

Where - Hothouse Rooftop, Access via Martello Street (railway arch end), E8 3QW

Bookings - From Billetto here   Walk-ins also welcome (but you might not get to eat)

Once it was Chardonnay, now there's the ABC club!
