Saigon StrEat's Saturday Night Pop-up in Hither Green

Saigon StrEat are popping up every Saturday night at The Cafe of Good Hope in Hither Green.  No booking - just turn up!  Note - they're also at the Plumtree Cafe in Greenwich on Fridays - full info on Facebook here

"When I was little, I was always helping my mum in the kitchen from bashing crab shells to pounding lemongrass…basically the ‘dirty work’. What this means, however, is that despite the South East London accent, I definitely know how to serve up some true authentic Vietnamese comfort food!
Inspired by the sidewalk dining and street food of Saigon, we will be recreating this eating experience here in London; complete with flavourful market fresh ingredients and a rotating menu of authentic Vietnamese street food.
We believe serving healthy and great tasting food goes hand in hand with supporting British local business and having love and respect for our planet."

When - Saturday evenings, 6pm - 10.30pm

Where - The Café of Good Hope, 216-218 Hither Green Lane, London, SE13 6RT

Smokey Tails Riverside Pop-up BBQ in Hackney Wick

Smokey Tails is a Thursday-Sunday pop-up in Hackney Wick, specialising in smoked meats & frozen cocktails, from DJ Seth Troxler.  It's been open since early August, and I'm guessing it'll be here until about the end of September.

"A riverside hideaway, a wooden-decked sun-trap boasting exquisite smoked meats, sublime salads, knock-out frozen cocktails and mighty fine deserts
The restaurant is the brainchild of six collaborators, all well qualified in fun, including internationally renowned DJ Seth Troxler and his partner Ryan Crosson (Visionquest) together with Jo Vidler from Secret Productions - the team behind the award winning Secret Garden Party and Wilderness plus Ben Pound from Futureline Productions who is behind the production and design of Paradise Ibiza and Circo Loco events.
Smokey Tails is based at London E9′s Container Yard, 119 Wallis Road and is reminiscent of Berlin's Club der Visionaere. It will be open Thursday to Sunday for the rest of the summer serving up exquisite smoked meats, sublime salads, knock-out frozen cocktails, independent guest ales and mighty fine desserts. The name is a fusion inspired by the smokey meats cooking on the BBQ and the abundance of cocktails on offer – people will not be disappointed.
There will also be the chance to try Seth Troxler’s barbecue sauce which has been passed down from his grandfather and developed over the years when ingredients were added with each generation. The sauce is currently being developed in the USA and this is the only place in the UK where people can taste it.
DJ Seth Troxler says “Myself and Ryan grew up in Detroit and have been smoking and barbecuing in between spinning records and producing for years – our dream was to open a restaurant bar. When Ben from Futureline found this space we knew it had a lot of potential and hey presto, Smokey Tails was born.""

When - Thursday - Sunday
Thursday - 1pm Snacks, dinner from 6pm, Close midnight
Friday, Saturday, Sunday 11am - midnight

Where - The Container Yard, 119 Wallis Road E9 5LN

Sho Foo Doh's Japanese Street Food Residency at Pacific Social Club in Hackney

Update - now 5 nights a week - Tues - Sat - new listing here

Sho Foo Doh have announced a residency at Pacific Social Club in Hackney, to run in the evenings from Thurs - Saturday.  I've eaten Fumio's food on lots of occasions - think really tasty Japanese pancakes & more - and I can't wait for this one.

"Hackney drop out centre Pacific Social Club finally seems close to realising their initial ambition later this month by cementing their habitual pop-uppers Sho Foo Doh to a permanent residency. Since first collaborating in June 2012, the monthly pairing of Fumio Tanga's Sho Foo Doh on food and the Pacific Socialists on booze has been a bit of a hit, with constant full houses, full stomachs and positive vibrations. Now, from Friday 17th May, the culinary darklands of Lower Clapton will finally have a regular rival to the mass of pub pizza and kebabish kebabs when Fumio and his massive hot plate plant themselves at the Pacific every Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 17th May (apart from 1st Fridays of the month when wonderful cousin, Bao London will take over and other one-off events). We are open from 6pm and 10pm last order. Bring your own booze with no corkage fee to start with.
Fumio began “Sho Foo Doh” at Chatsworth Road Market in May 2011 selling humble Osaka/Kansai style Okonomiyaki, Japanese savoury pancakes, after taking its name from his grandfather’s sweet shop in Hiroshima that closed nearly 30 years ago, inheriting just his uniforms and a lantern. It soon found fans amongst locals, bloggers and foodies such as Metro, Marina O’loughlin, Debate Your Plate, Jen Eats The Streets. Now the location has changed, the food has changed but the concept remains the same, keeping it simple yet playful, honest and delicious. Fumio will be serving up okonomiyaki in all regional styles (but of course specialising in Hiroshima style! ) and weekly changing sharing dishes such as gochujang marinated tuna with rawegg yolk, fried aubergines soaked in bonito dashi, popular sweet sesame vinegar cucumber pickles and many more that take in influences from Japan’s izakaya (kind of tapas bar with endless menus of plates to share) and Japanese home cooking."

When - Thursday - Saturday, 6pm - 10pm from 17th May

Where - Pacific Social Club, 8 Clarence Road, E5 8HB

Booking recommended - email  fumiotanga@gmail.com

Weekends at The Midnight Apothecary Rooftop Cocktail Bar in Rotherhithe

Update - Back for 2014 - Saturdays only - see details here

The Midnight Apothocary, one of the hits of 2012, has announced it's summer season for 2013.  This year they'll be open every Saturday and Sunday, with Lottie Muir's cocktails all weekend, and food from The Foragers on Sunday.  Plus, there's an opera on the first Saturday!

"Lovers of wild cocktails, campfires, flowers, riverside sunsets, pop-up opera and foraged feasts – you may have found Nirvana, right in the heart of London.
Midnight Apothecary, the legendary rooftop garden pop-up cocktail bar at the Brunel Museum in Rotherhithe SE16 is returning for another season of magical Saturday nights, starting Saturday 20 April, 5.30pm - 11pm.  And for the first time, Sunday afternoons too…and joined by some special guests.
Hailed as “the hottest pop-up cocktail bar in town” last summer, Midnight Apothecary has invited wild gourmet chefs The Foragers (of Dead Dolls Club fame) to serve up wild food alongside their wild cocktails on Saturday nights and Sunday afternoons.
“We have been busy infusing, distilling and generally cooking up a storm of brand new cocktail creations based on ingredients in our garden and out in the wild” said Lottie Muir, the Cocktail Gardener and creator of Midnight Apothecary.  “What better way to wash them down than with some beautiful morsels from The Foragers?”
Set up by chefs George Fredenham and Gerald Waldeck who run the Verulam Arms in St Albans, The Foragers is a dining concept which aims “to inspire a movement of respectful and tasteful foraging”.
To coincide with the launch of Midnight Apothecary there will be pop-up opera in the underground Thames Tunnel Shaft from Pop-up Opera who are bringing their production of Gaetano Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore (The Elixir of Love) to Brunel's Thames Tunnel Shaft at 3pm on 20 April (you can catch a taster video here: http://bit.ly/ZWdFqa and book tickets here: http://popupoperabrunelelisir.eventbrite.co.uk). AND the museum will also be celebrating the 170th anniversary of Brunel's Thames Tunnel with optional guided descents of the underground Grand Entrance Hall.  So it will be quite a day and night in the beautiful riverside setting of the Brunel Museum.  And only one minute's walk from Rotherhithe Overground station.
Here’s to stoking up the fire, lighting the flares and enjoying some magical nights in the garden."

When - From 20th April
Saturday - 5.30pm - 11pm (Cocktails)
Sunday - 12.30pm - 5pm (Cocktails & Food)
