Dub Plates Kitchen's Fridays at Bread Street Kitchen near St Paul's

Bread Street Sessions, which hosted Busan BBQ last year, is back for 2015 with Dub Plates Kitchen, serving up their amazing London/Caribbean fusion dishes in the bar of Gordon Ramsay's Bread Street Kitchen.  I've head Dub Plates' food before - and it's delicious.  Go and taste it for yourself - it's  on for three Thursdays in February, starting 12th on Fridays through March

"Hotter than a scotch bonnet, Bread St Sessions continues its showcase of street food superstars by welcoming Dub Plates Kitchen, with their rocksteady repertoire of Caribbean dishes remixed with a London vibe, to Bread Street Kitchen every Thursday from 5-11pm throughout February in their street level bar.
The brainchild of two friends with Caribbean heritage and a shared London upbringing, Dub Plates Kitchen was inspired by memories of their Mum's curry goat or rice and peas, fish and chips on a Friday, enjoying a curry in Brick Lane, and comforting school dinner desserts. Dub Plates Kitchen’s dishes are a remix of London and West Indian flavours which has spiced up street food events, markets & supperclubs.
Kick things off by tucking into 48 hour-marinated chicken wings, drizzled with a sorrel and chilli sauce, or curry goat stuffed into sweet brioche sliders with pickle, mango and sriracha. All dishes are under £5 – so you can let your taste buds run free and enjoy a flavour-filled feast of the Islands. Savour a Caribbean speciality with baked breadfruit segments dipped into a spicy coconut sauce or delve into the Dub Plates Special: One Drops; panko-crusted, deep-fried balls of rice and peas filled with either jerk chicken, or dhal, macaroni cheese with a callaloo middle.
Cool off with a cold Red Stripe Lager or sip a Wray & Nephew rum cocktail while listening to DJ's playing an eclectic mix reflective of Dub Plates Kitchen's musical inspirations.
Every night at Bread St Sessions is a celebration of food, street culture and music, reflecting the culinary diversity of London. Bread Street Kitchen, part of the Gordon Ramsay Group, is located at One New Change, sitting in the heart of the City and in the shadow of the historic St. Paul’s Cathedral."

When - Fridays (was Thursdays) 5pm - 11pm for March

The Waldorf Project - Food, Art & Performance in E2

The Waldorf Project: Chapter Two is an art, theatre and food event happening at Oval Space, E2, from Thurs 5th - Weds 11th February, with a rehearsal and preview happening the two days before.  The Waldorf Project last happened in London in 2012 - see my event page here - and only 48 tickets are available for each performance,  Full price tickets are £160 + fees, but the rehearsal and preview are both a lot cheaper.

"The Waldorf Project: Chapter Two / COLOUR will run 5 – 11 February 2015 in the vast surroundings of London’s Oval Space – with only 48 guests to share in the rarefied experience per night.
Taking a further step from trend forecasts already established in Chapter One / Muskmelon, the Waldorf Project now presents a fresh perspective and a new challenge in the synchronisation of consumption and emotional sentience.
Uniting the senses through food, fine wine, scent, sound, movement and setting, the Waldorf Project is an immersive experience on a grand stage, in which art is taken in through all of the senses.
Chapter Two will delve into colour beyond the visual, creating several monochromatic environments in which the character, emotion and absolute command of colour saturation will be explored. At its zenith a new taste will be realized.
Seven of the most pioneering practitioners in the worlds of visual art, choreography, theatre, design, electronic music and gastronomy unite. Central to this concept is the synergy between the diverse skills and imaginations of the creative team: a food designer, a choreographer, a production designer, a product designer, a sommelier, and a sound designer, all directed by artist Sean Rogg."

When - Thurs 5th - Weds 11th February
Rehearsal & Previews - Tues 3rd & Weds 4th

Where - Oval Space, 32 The Oval, London Borough of Tower Hamlets, E2 9DT
Note - not The Oval in South London...

Tickets - From Waldorf Project here
Rehearsal - £20 + fees
Preview - £50 & £90 + fees

The Cuckoo Kitchen's Winter Dinner at The Baring in N1

The Cuckoo Kitchen was started by six friends who liked the idea of raising money for charity, but were unlikely to ever run a half-marathon. Instead, playing to their strengths, they decided to launch a restaurant where the proceeds from each evening are donated to a local charitable cause.  They take over a pub kitchen four times a year, and on Monday 9th February they'll be cooking at the Baring, in Baring Street, N1, between Angel & Haggerston, for a meal featuring Goan osso bucco (full menu below) in aid of the Street Doctors charity.  Please support them - sounds like a great night!

"Four times a year the Cuckoo Kitchen takes over the kitchen at a pub or restaurant to serve you seasonal food, deliciously prepared. Our winter event is on Monday February 9th at 7.30.
This season's menu:
Starter
Masoor dal soup
Main (meat*)
Goan osso bucco served with pilau rice and stir-fried green beans
Main (vegetarian)
South Indian paneer with tamarind and tomato, served with pilau rice and stir-fried green beans
Dessert
Yoghurt and orange cake
Coffee
Freshly roasted coffee from 92 Degrees
*all meat is sourced from the Ginger Pig, a butcher committed to good animal husbandry and welfare
This season's charity: Street Doctors
About this season's charity:
Street Doctors is a charity registered in the UK. We change the lives of high risk young people by giving them the skills they need to deliver life-saving first aid. But as well as saving lives we use first aid as a tool to educate and empower these young people, giving them confidence and a sense of responsibility for their actions, helping to change their attitude towards violence."

When - Monday 9th February, 7.30pm

Where - The Baring Pub, 55 Baring Street, N1 3DS

'I Love Your Hat' Supper Club's Cheese Affair Dinner in Hackney

Note - these were in early 2015

A dinner designed around cheese, featuring soufle, cheesecake, and slow roasted lamb (with unpasteurised Manchego mousse) is taking place at Frizzante Restaurant at Hackney City Farm on Saturday 31st January, as a joint project between Carmen Kabel, Marco Carboni, and Eddie Ambrosi.  Just £25 for 4 courses - full details below.

Come and enjoy a delicious 4 course meal and share stories around the warm Hackney City Farm fireplace…bring your friends…and make more friends!
I Love Your Hat! is about meeting interesting people, exploring real and creative food that tastes truly delicious.

Dhaba Lane's Indian High Chai Afternoon Tea in Shoreditch

On Saturday 31st January Dhaba Lane is holding a special Indian 'High Chai' afternoon tea at their place on Leonard Street, EC2, just off Shoreditch High Street.  Full menu below - it will last from 4pm to 6.30pm.

"Generally had right after the quintessential afternoon nap, chai and biscuit is intrinsic part of the Indian food culture.
The 'right' way to make tea is with spices (ginger, cardamom, cloves), loose teas leaves and most importantly hot milk! The 'right' way  to drink tea is to dip the biscuit in the tea and enjoy the moist deliciousness.
The Indian High Tea - over which marriages are agreed, disputes settles and deals signed is a more elaborate affair. A bit of savoury, a bit of sweet and but of course the 'garam pyala' (hot mug) of chai it can be quite a heavy affair!
We look forward to welcoming you to our secret, cozy underground cafe. We hope to replicate the hospitality of a typical Indian tea party for you - so sit back, enjoy and let us as the host make your visit memorable.
