FoodCycle and Love Food Hate Waste present... Feaster! in Clerkenwell

Foodcycle are back (see previous events here) with a banquet made from surplus ingredients, at a very impressive venue, The Museum of The Order of St John in Clerkenwell on the Thursday 28th March, the day before Good Friday. Feaster - geddit?

"FoodCycle and Valentine Warner team up with Recycle for London and Love Food Hate Waste to provide a banquet made from surplus ingredients on Thursday 28th March at the historic Museum of the Order of St John.
FoodCycle, the charity devoted to tackling food waste and food poverty, is collaborating with Love Food Hate Waste and Recycle for London to fight food waste this Easter.
Together they are creating a pop-up restaurant, hosted by celebrity chef Valentine Warner, to start the Easter weekend in style at the Museum of the Order of St John in London.
‘Feaster’, on Thursday March 28th, will offer diners a five-course feast made out of ingredients that would otherwise have been wasted, with a menu devised by Valentine Warner and FoodCycle. Meanwhile in the run-up to the event, throughout Lent, a new tip to cut food waste at home will be released each day on the @FoodCycle and @Recycle_London twitter feeds.
The proceeds from ticket sales – available at £26 – will help the charity’s innovative projects, which collect surplus ingredients from supermarkets and cook them into nutritious meals for people at risk from food poverty and social isolation.
Kelvin Cheung, CEO and founder of FoodCycle says:
“So much food is wasted all year round, and Easter presents yet another occasion where we all waste too much. Despite this we have over 4 million people affected by food poverty in the UK. Like us, Love Food Hate Waste is working hard to reduce the nation’s food waste and we’re proud to create this unique event with them and Valentine Warner, raising vital funds for us to create more meals for those in need.”"

Foodcycle's Forgotten Feast in Holborn

Foodcycle are holding a 4 day pop-up restaurant in the Fleet Bakery in Holborn; a very welcome ethical pop-up diner.

"This summer, FoodCycle are teaming up with Forgotten Feast and eco-chef Tom Hunt to create a sensational pop-up surplus feast in the heart of London.
From June 21st to 24th (Thursday-Sunday 19:30PM-22:30PM) you can enjoy a three-course banquet at the Fleet River Bakery, home of FoodCycle's first ever cooking session back in 2009.
An unforgettable celebration of taste will be created using delicacies that would otherwise be forgotten. From wild foods and ugly vegetables to unusual cuts of meat and fish - and we can cater for veggies and meat-eaters alike!
Earlybird tickets are now on sale for just £30 (at http://foodcycleforgottenfeast.eventbrite.co.uk/) and proceeds from the event will go to FoodCycle and to creating other Forgotten Feast events. FoodCycle is a UK charity (reg. 1134423) which combines volunteers, surplus food and spare kitchen spaces to create nutritious meals for people at risk from food poverty and social isolation."

When - 21st - 24th June. Sunday 24th will be a late lunch, starting from 3pm. All others are in the evening.

FoodCycle and Forgotten Feast present... An Alternative Christmas in Rotherhithe

FoodCycle last popped up in the summer with Forgotten Feast when they held a 4 day pop-up in Holborn. Now they're teaming up again for a winter event, again for four days, but this time at the Brunel Museum in Rotherhithe.

"This December, FoodCycle are teaming up with Tom Hunt’s Forgotten Feast to create an Alternative Christmas banquet at the Brunel Museum on the banks of the Thames in London.
From December 6th-9th (Thursday-Saturday 19:00PM-23:00PM; Sunday 2:30PM-6:30PM) you can enjoy a ‘Forgotten Feast of 7 Fishes’ including carpaccio of scallop, and risotto nero or a vegetarian Italian feast including pumpkin and sage risotto with foraged salad, and garbanzo stew with borlotti and glut tomatoes.
Even better, before dining, guests will be treated to an exclusive guided descent into the underground Grand Entrance Hall of Brunel’s Thames Tunnel, one of the great wonders of the Victorian age and the first tunnel under a river anywhere in the world, which was closed to the public for over 140 years.
The Feast of 7 Fishes is eaten on La Vigilia (Christmas Eve) in Italy. Traditionally 7 or 13 dishes are served after the seven sacraments and thirteen apostles. The meal is best served family style in big serving platters to bring people together. Tom will be representing 7 forgotten fish, sourcing fish that are often neglected or not usually seen on British menus. Come and sample an unforgettable celebration of taste created using delicacies that would otherwise be forgotten.
From wild foods and misshapen vegetables to unusual cuts of meat and fish - and you can choose between a Feast of 7 Fishes or an Italian Vegetarian Banquet.
Earlybird tickets are now on sale for £35 and proceeds from the event will go to FoodCycle, to help serve more meals for people at risk from food poverty, and to the creation of more Forgotten Feast events.
There will be a cash-only bar selling delicious wines to complement your meal."

'The Great Chicken Wing Hunt' Film Premiere with Guest Chefs in Shoreditch

A film premiere with a difference. Two differences. Three differences. Lots of differences.
1 - No red carpet
2 - Shoreditch, not Leicester Sq
3 - It's about food - chicken wings
4 - There will guest chefs cooking chicken wings to get you in the mood.
Oh - and proceeds will go to Foodcycle. It's on Tuesday 4th March, and since nothing ever happens on a Tuesday you should get your tickets now!

"The UK premiere of The Great Chicken Wing Hunt, the award-winning documentary directed by Matt Reynolds.
On the 4th March 1964, the humble hot wing was invented in Buffalo, New York by Teressa Bellissimo.
Now, 50 years later to the day, we celebrate the hot wing with a fundraising screening, with proceeds going to FoodCycle, alongside some of our favourite guest chefs and food obsessed friends - line up below!
On the night we will be screening Matt's brilliant film - whose fans range from The New Yorker to Eater, and has screened at over 25 festivals before hitting London - followed by chicken and drinks, with guest chefs donating their version of a hot sauce that will be dousing free wings.

Saucer & Cup Lates - A Pop-up Bar in Wimbledon Park

'Saucer & Cup Lates' is a new Wimbledon pop-up bar at Saucer & Cup cafe in Arthur Road, SW19. There will be beer, wine, gin, and small plates of food, with the emphasis on local producers. It takes place on Friday 26th June, with 10% of profits going to Foodcycle

'Saucer & Cup Lates’ is Wimbledon Park's first neighbourhood pop-up bar which turns an independent coffee shop into a bar.
We are serving craft beer, wines and gin as well as small plates of food. All of our products are sourced from local producers and independent local businesses.
Our aim is to connect community and local businesses by showcasing their quality products in a relaxed atmosphere.
10% off all profits will be donated to FoodCycle - an amazing community project working to reduce food poverty and isolation."

Protein's 3 Day Christmas Market in Shoreditch

Protein are turning their whole street into a Christmas Market for three days in mid-December. Lots of events and attractions are planned - see the flyer above and the details below. There have been other events in Hewett Street, for example last year's Dante's Fried Chicken, so it's bound to be lots of fun and lots of it is for good causes.

"You may remember our Hewett Street Block Party, where over 3,000 of you came through for a full day summer spectacular complete with raffles, food trucks, and cameos from ODB, Ghostface and RZA. This Christmas, we're upping our festive food game with a 3 DAY CHRISTMAS MARKET!
From the 14th of December, our 18 Hewett Street space will be turned into a Winter Wonderland of Culinary Delights. Mince-pie Popcorn and edible Christmas cards by Animal Vegetable Mineral, Choco Smoked Walnuts by Lily Vanilli, a super special Christmas Pudding from St. John, mouth watering pickles, sriracha, kimchi and jerky from F.A.T., and bad boi salami hampers from Picco Salumi ...
And that's not the half of it. We've got surprises coming from the likes of Elliot's, London Borough of Jam,Monster Supplies, and Gelupo plus many more.
And of course, no Protein event would be complete without a festive tipple. Expect bottled Christmas booze from The Boilermaker, We Are Noble craft beer & fine wines and kickstarter cuppa wonder Good & ProperTea throughout the three days.
Buying a gift for someone else? Try our donation based gift wrapping service, with paper designs by the ludicrously talented GIF pioneers Reed+Rader, comic artist Joe Kessler (whose show is on at 18HS right now!) and jewellery designer Alice Waese. All profits go to the wonderful Foodcycle charity, so when you're buying your third bottle of Dante Fried Chicken Sock-It-To-Me Apricot Hot Sauce you'll be helping a good cause too.
The Protein by DunneFrankowski coffee shop is open as usual, serving Irish coffees along with sellling their exclusive handpicked Christmas Coffee Box. We've just got a bunch of new arrivals at The Shelf at Protein as well: Bompas & Parr's latest book FEASTING, Dante Fried Chicken’s Ride or Fry, and the latest issues of Lucky Peach, ACQTASTE, Gather Journal, The Gourmand and Wilder Quarterly.
Finally, a selection of limited edition prints from previous shows at 18 Hewett Street will be available, and we've got plenty of Protein gifts including the brand new 2013 Protein Calendar, Bompas & Parr ouija board tea towels, and Good & Proper tote bags to make sure you've got the best goodies this Christmas. come by from12pm on Friday where we'll be serving Family turkey tacos, Lily Vanilli absinthe hot chocolate and The Boilermaker hot mulled cider to keep you fuelled.
Our friends at TOMS will be setting up a GIVE Shop at The Old Truman Brewery just off Brick Lane over the weekend too, where there'll be acoustic gigs and craft workshops, so make sure you drop by after!"
